It is a creepy scene, more so because very little is said about him in the film, or by Lynch in his own words. It's funny how Blake nonchalantly thinks he's playing the devil, but I detect something stranger, maybe even on a deeper level. That's the genius of the film, not knowing, and therefore being left disturbed

I agree. Even calling him the "mystery man" epitomises that aspect of the character. The lack of information and context coupled with his appearance and the supernatural interaction makes him so unsettling!

@kyleohlendieck thinking about this, I'll have to watch the film again!

@@kyleohlendieck I was reminded of this scene when watching a video called the "nonhuman interactions iceberg", full of very similar anecdotes as this scene

7:02 the Mystery Man points his fingers like a pistol, a foreshadowing of what he's going to do to his friend, Dick Laurent.

Nice, bro! Appreciated your insights and now wanna see the movie but I'm still in my TP/Mulholland drive stage. I think this might be the most fluent transition in Lynch

Good idea. Lost Highway isn't his best work either in my opinion but this scene is great. I'd recommend Blue Velvet if you're easing into his style

It starts when, as soon as he’s at the bar, the other people at the bar all leave, making it seem that they’re leaving because of him, and you can see the slight unease in his demeanor while considering this possibility.

Well spotted! They scatter after he arrives

Here is a link to the scene for those who haven't seen it (it doesn't spoil the film): kzbin.info/www/bejne/aoqafaODp8Z8pMUsi=ELYmdx-JNyK07cDK

could we see a deeper dive on scenes that take the strangeness too far? Maybe a small breakdown of a scene that takes it too far?

Interesting suggestion! Will try to see if I can implement this in a future video
