In Moondust, you see him holding his daughter while Margaret had slight distance with their son and you see him excitedly running with her and his son after the launch. I'm glad they showed subtle portrayals of his love for their children. According to close friends in that circle, he was the more doting and attentive parent than Margaret ever was and showed so much love for his children despite the turbulent marriage (and his own lack of parental love), similar to Diana's love for her sons. Part of his hatred for Margaret was because she threw them to nannies instead of spending time with them. It's no surprise that both kids pursued artistic careers like him.

Sometimes the leaders have to wait, are advised to wait, because their presence would actually impede recovery efforts. You see this in America when there’s a major natural disaster or something like this. It’s because the presence of the president, his staff, security, the extra media attention takes up too many resources that need to be allocated solely for relief efforts.

Tony is a complete tool throughout the whole show, so seeing him and Margaret being absolutely shaken to their core really makes this scene.

Interesting fact: Olivia Coleman is one to cry when hearing sad stories, so in order to do this scene without getting emotional, she had earbuds hidden in her ears playing shipping reports so that she could not hear anything Helena Bonham Carter was saying and be able to stay composed.

The miners lived in two neighbourhoods, each with its own school. The miners organised themselves so that parents weren't digging for their own children. That's basic human decency. The mine managers didn't bother to think about that.

I always loved this scene as I felt this is the most we see of Tony and Margaret doing a good royal duty and informing the queen vs the people that were supposed to inform her. As well as still seeing Margo and Tony’s relationship still being sweet before we saw the tragic end.

The most fascinating thing about all these scenes with the Queen is that Olivia Colman as the Queen is absolutely required to retain her royal composure but at the same time to show us viewers how she's reacting to whatever (often bad) news is at hand. Ms. Colman superbly manages this with her quite expressive eyes . . . and truly, I don't think any other actor could achieve this as well as she does.

Olivia Coleman is a great actor and was perfect for the role: good acting skills, and sort of looks like the Queen in her plain non-descript way - very British to give someone as talented as her a 'platform' in the movie industry, despite the fact she doesn't look like Swift or Rhianna.

I just read that Olivia Coleman is unable to stop getting emotional over sad stories, so to keep her composure she had ear buds to play shipping reports, so she could keep a straight face. I’m surprised Helena was able to keep a straight face, describing Aberfan.

I am from England. My dad's cousin lost two of his children in the Aberfan disaster. May all those little ones who lost their lives rest in peace, it was a truly terrible day that will never be forgotten.

Unfortunately, nothing has changed. The coal pits still stand piled up dangerously high to this day, one sits right above my sister's home. Whenever there is heavy rainfall we get landslides, the coal board was disbanded years ago and to this day nobody has taken official responsibility for the slag heaps. Unfortunately our government doesn't seem to care enough and as a result there is always a chance of history unfortunately repeating itself once again, we've just been lucky enough to not lose anyone in the most recent landslides.

Sadly I'm not surprised. I'm a documentary fan, and I used to binge disaster documentaries in particular. I think people don't like to change something that they know works and is cheaper than a safe alternative because they think "nothings happened yet, why change anything?". Keyword of course being 'yet'. It's a sad fact that more often than not it takes one or more deaths (and often only a major disaster) to force the changes required to make anything safer. We've seen this with planes, ships, refineries, trains, buildings and even just simple procedures.

This scene reminds me of 94 school children while studying in their class died because of fire caught in the roofs of the classroom . It happened in kumbakonam district in tamilnadu state 😢😢😢 still heartbreaking incident for me

Wow, I'd never heard of this disaster before. "Heavy rain led to a build-up of water within the tip which caused it to suddenly slide downhill as a slurry, killing 116 children and 28 adults as it engulfed Pantglas Junior School and a row of houses." That's horrific.

My mum grew up in a welsh mining village not far from Aberfan My grampa (her dad) was a miner and when news broke he and his coworkers went to aberfan to help with excavation I know it’s silly but I like to imagine my grampa is one of those extras in the background But on a serious note, it’s poignant watching a dramatisation of an event that your grandparents witnessed

For me what is even worse is that all those who could have stopped it happening in the first place the high ups on the national coal board suffered no punishment. The blood and death of the people was on their hands and they got away with it.
