@@curtissimmons2287 Gozer is costumed and coiffed the same, down to thee flat top and the bumps on the skin-hugging suit. Very similar voice effect for Gozer, too. The dogs are EXACTLY the same, and even the look one of them gives to the ghostbusters is the same. They also turn from human to dog with very similar effects in almost exactly the same transformation. The stairs are made of much the same elements and same colour, though not exactly the same design. The obelisks are positioned differently, but they are designed almost exactly the same. The effects are similar. When the 'gatekeeper' and the 'keymaster' ascend the stairs it looks very much the same as the original, even down to the camera angle and the keymaster's shocked hair style. Get the old movie and watch the 2 scenes. Very similar. Or you can check out the same scene in the old one by putting 'Ghostbusters Vs. Gozer 1st Form' into the youtube search bar to see much of the original. enjoy!

I agree the red eye detail would have stayed true to the original and actually I felt this section of the film was massively rushed. We barely had time to take in seeing ivo shandor and I was expecting Gozer to take a larger form for the final battle. That would be my only real criticism of Afterlife though.

While Gozer is attributed to Oliva Wilde and she was the main actress for the role, actually it was played by three people. Olivia Wilde plays Gozer in the solid, corporeal form in Ghostbusters: Afterlife. However, her performance is combined with two other actors to create Gozer's complete character. Canadian dancer and choreographer Emma Portner plays Gozer's CGI spirit form, presumably through motion capture, while Shohreh Aghdashloo is the creepy and high-pitched voice of Gozer. It is one of the composite characters in the film.

In the original Ghostbusters the two terror dogs were needed to open a big dimensional doorway for Gozer to appear. Gozer was banished by crossing the streams and closing the door. In this movie the two terror dogs are needed to make Gozer manifest whole. By trapping one of the dogs you weaken Gozer. A bit inconsistent from the 1st movie but it still works.

The Door, The Dogs and Gozer are all linked. The the dogs are key to opening the gate and they're also the anchors that allow Gozer to remain manifested in the living world. Interfere with any of those and it banishes her or weakens her. Honestly they should have had two RC traps. Two kids controlling them and while Gozer's distracted...snag both of them. Effectively send her back. At the end her essence is separated into multiple traps but what now? She too powerful for the containment unit.

You are absolutely right! I found this problem with Afterlife as well. Plus the fact that there were manifestations of Gozer even before the Terror Dogs united (the Staypuft mini-men in the Wal-mart). Removing a terror dog , furthermore trapping Gozer should not have been possible with traps due to the fact that the dogs were demi-gods and Gozer was a deity, they weren't ghosts. Closing the gate removes Gozer, and that was only done by crossing the streams.

Things I never noticed: The fire ghost is chasing fire fighters. There's wind inside as the woman at the diner sees the miner. Also Gozer's new internal lightning effect is really fun to pause and cycle through. Especially as its ghastly cardiovascular system gets ripped from its body.

Justin Williams you may be interested to know that Paddi Edwards was chosen to voice Gozer in the original 1984 movie because Slavitza Jovan (the actress playing Gozer in the original movie) couldn't pronounce the line "choose and perish" correctly due to her strong Slavic accent which led to Bill Murray making fun of her as it sounded like she was saying "Jews✡️🕍and berries🍓🍓🍓" and he replied "sorry but there are no Jews✡️🕍or berries🍓🍓🍓here!"
