I don't know if I already left a comment like this, but while I appreciate the work that goes into the coding this is just... not as useful as I hoped it would be for me. I tried recording a drug dealer driving to a meet, and no matter what I did he inevitably swerved _directly into_ one of his lady cohorts, like she was an ex girlfriend or something. That's just the tip of the iceberg, the "setup" vs. "active" modes are confusing and the "actors" almost always go apeshit after they're spawned, amongst a whole host of other bizarre glitches, and problems. Not to mention that setting them on different teams does not do anything. Most of the time they won't even shoot at ME if I start going ballistic - and if they have guns - they just run away.

Thanks for sharing your experience. Would love to see some concrete video examples of the issues you have faced, so I can see what can be done with them. Best place to share them is on the discord channel for the mod discord.gg/eDVwSN8 where there is also other user's of the mod who share experience and tips and tricks. With the individual actor recording features, the focus has more been on "recording/playback" each individual actor and less on having actors automatically respond to your player actions.

"With the individual actor recording features, the focus has more been on "recording/playback" each individual actor and less on having actors automatically respond to your player actions." I don't think this relates much to what I said. Unless you're conflating two of my issues. Okay - so, I saw a video on the teams, right? So I know they were conceived of as a way to trigger instantaneous combat between groups of adversaries, (I'm guessing in active mode?) like an easy way to just "have an action scene" as it were. I know you said it "didn't always work" at the time, but I can't see that it works at all, even now. So I don't really understand the purpose of continuously including the team system, *if* the purpose _of the system_ is what doesn't work. My only individual actor recording problem was driving. Where if I had to drive through a certain spot that was tight (but not really that tight of a) squeeze, no matter how much I varied it, during recording, on the playback the guy always landed in the exact same place, which was swerving right into someone nearby. One point I tested it, by going out of my way not to go _near_ that person and it had the opposite of the intended effect. It was always like he was aiming for her, defiant like. It was kind of hilarious, to be honest. Unrelated to that is how it's hard to set up a scene, knowing that if the cops get into a shootout with some random bangers, all of my "actors" are going to scatter like particles from a fart. Of course it helps to use Director mode, but that has its own limitations, mainly the mandatory weapon wheel that will replace the weapons I give to my actors using other trainers if I switch to them. Also, do you still have the spotlight feature? Because I was never entirely sure how it worked - I know a lot of Machinimists don't use it, but I edit better on Rockstar's native editor, and far from it being a problem unique to your mod specifically, no lighting, and very few FX mods seem to translate to the editor. The guy who made Menyoo, "Mafins" acts like he doesn't even know what it is. I'm really not trying to be a nuisance, I just think it's important to be honest. Using scene director can be kinda hard, and it's still pretty buggy, as far as I can tell. But I know you're just one guy. All of that being said, I did have a good experience with it more recently when trying to set a "life on the street" type scene. I'm using add-ons and other mods to invoke a particular era. So I have to individually select every "random" car and pedestrian and give them things to do. I found Menyoo was useful for small animations and interactions, and scene director playback was good for giving the illusion of people following road rules or any action that was more easily performed via controller input. Although ironically (considering my previous problem) I couldn't get one of my actors to run the other one over, when I needed them to. HAHA! You can imagine how weird it is trying to trigger active mode on scene director, do the same on Menyoo, and then record on vanilla. But of course that's what the delay options are for. (I'm just saying, I'm using a lot of shit.) The scene never got made, by the way, my game crashed midway through for unrelated reasons. But that's another thing that drives me crazy about all of it. It's really a labor of love, because you could lose all of your progress putting together the perfect little microcosm, over nothing, and have to come back and do it all over again, virtually from scratch. But hey, anything is better than trying to make a cohesive, entertaining story, or scene, using the tools on _"PS4"_. As the ratings on the only "machinima" I've "completed" so far can attest. But I digress. I may have mixed feelings about how intuitive it is, but keep doing what you're doing because no one else is. That's invaluable in and of itself. And not to make this novella even longer, but is there a way to "stack" recordings? Sounds a little too complicated to me, but like if you drive down the road, then you want to focus on aiming and shooting, so in the next layer you shoot while your same character drives for you. Really the only reason I ask is because in _every_ GTA game, when you steal a car the character points his gun at the driver's head, and I always pull back the trigger to make sure they haven't allowed you to casually murder people mid-carjacking, but they never do. =[

Thanks for the mother of all comments ! :) Thanks for being very concrete on the issues you are facing, as very often it's hard understand what the actual problem is. The issues you point to a general areas where I experience that the GTA Natives API limits the possibilities I can do with the mod. We're really stretching what's possible and sometimes this causes issues that are very hard to get good workarounds for. Driving: For the driving system, I'm basically recording the location, speed and heading very often. When replaying it, I'm abusing GTA Natives for AI driving that never were intended for short distances. It works quite well, but especially stopping on a certain location seems to be not as accurate as I want. GTA it self uses scripted driving routes, but no modder has been able to use them. Make sure you use direct mode at least, as this will prevent all AI logic related to roads and such (which cause problems when you have many small distances) Team system: The team system is designed in the following way. During passive mode in the scene everyone is friends (belong to the same relationship group), but when the scene is active I switch relationship group according to what's defined pr actor. Seems simple, but in practice GTA V doesn't allow you to swap relationship group more than once. The only workaround is probably to clone the actor into a new actor for everytime (and currently I'm not able to clone all possible attributes on an actor). Took the feature away in 3.0 release, but some video makers complained and said while it didn't work, it at least helped slightly. Spotlight: Spotlights are unfortunately not recorded and playedback in director's mode. I had planned to try to find a workaround (by spawning light props), but have not prioritized it yet.So for now, you need to record with a third party recorder such as fraps and there is no editing. Have just started working on the next major feature, and here I plan for you to be able to move the camera (birds eye mode) Game crashes: For now, the only feature which helps is the save/load actors functionality. Have looked into saving loading entire scenes and recording, but this has very high complexity so have prioritized other features so far. Haven't got an impression that crashes have been that big of a problem, but it might be an issue for many. Stack recording: Think GTA Natives will not allow this to be done. In general, GTA Natives only allows you to do one action at a time. You can chain them together, but then they are executed on at a time. Have found a few workarounds which are used for gun fire recording, but for most areas this is not possible. There may be a feature in the future to adjust existing recordings (no promises at this time)

***** "Thanks for the mother of all comments ! :) Thanks for being very concrete on the issues you are facing, as very often it's hard understand what the actual problem is." Yeah, I like to be as precise as possible, in general, Sorry it took me awhile to get back to this. "Driving: For the driving system, I'm basically recording the location, speed and heading very often. When replaying it, I'm abusing GTA Natives for AI driving that never were intended for short distances. It works quite well, but especially stopping on a certain location seems to be not as accurate as I want. GTA it self uses scripted driving routes, but no modder has been able to use them." That's a shame, I imagine that could be quite useful. I'm fascinated by the Rockstar editor, it retains a lot of extremely precise information within a 3D environment, so I'm curious if you know whether or not that can be taken advantage of in mods like yours. I found that you can permenently add new props to an existing scene by spawning them in Menyoo, but A. If it's a person it doesn't move, and B. if they're stuck in an animation state they begin to distort in a two dimensional fashion when the camera is moved. As a non technical person, this is all very strange to me, I've only found one person who has made a mod directly for the Rockstar Editor, so I'm not sure if most modders have any clue how it works, or whether it's realistic to try to manipulate it in any way. "Make sure you use direct mode at least, as this will prevent all AI logic related to roads and such (which cause problems when you have many small distances)" Yeah, I like director's mode, like I said though, it's hard to retain weapons spawned by trainers, that's a shame. "Team system: The team system is designed in the following way. During passive mode in the scene everyone is friends (belong to the same relationship group), but when the scene is active I switch relationship group according to what's defined pr actor. Seems simple, but in practice GTA V doesn't allow you to swap relationship group more than once." Well shit, some of these limitations are just weird. "The only workaround is probably to clone the actor into a new actor for everytime (and currently I'm not able to clone all possible attributes on an actor). Took the feature away in 3.0 release, but some video makers complained and said while it didn't work, it at least helped slightly." I don't see how it could have, but I definitely see your dilemma, sounds like a pain in the ass. "Spotlight: Spotlights are unfortunately not recorded and playedback in director's mode. I had planned to try to find a workaround (by spawning light props), but have not prioritized it yet.So for now, you need to record with a third party recorder such as fraps and there is no editing." Unfortunately I don't think I can do that, personally. "I Have just started working on the next major feature, and here I plan for you to be able to move the camera (birds eye mode)" Good idea. As for lighting, I've experimented with workarounds. I tried using a trainer to spawn lights, and then turn their opacity down below 13, which makes everything but the light invisible (and often dims it.) It worked, but turning collision off of the object (a necessity for the camera) would often make the object detach from the player. It didn't matter anyway because in the native editor the camera could not pass through the light anyway, so I had an invisible barrier between the player and the camera. Car neons don't spread much light, but cars don't have collision in the editor either, so I figured that was my best bet, but since it needs to be close to the actor, going into cover mode forces them up against their invisible light source. I've managed to find two "props" that spawn a light source with no object, so I think I can work with that. But I wish I knew of some more, and different colored ones would be nice. One is the light that attaches to guns, the other seems to be some kind of street lighting. There's one other thing that absolutely bathes an area in a decent glow that only includes a black mat as an object that could be placed a fair distance from the player. It might be my best bet for lighting night scenes, since I don't have to fiddle with it when it becomes obvious the actor's face is glowing like Jesus, the second they preses up against a wall. "Game crashes: For now, the only feature which helps is the save/load actors functionality. Have looked into saving loading entire scenes and recording, but this has very high complexity so have prioritized other features so far. Haven't got an impression that crashes have been that big of a problem, but it might be an issue for many." Oh, you didn't really have to address this one, I told you it was unrelated to your mod. Loading entire scenes would be sweet as, especially since other mods can sorta meet that kinda thing halfway, but I'm not surprised if it's too demanding. You're clearly already working with a lot of weird limitations and bugs, and features. "Stack recording: Think GTA Natives will not allow this to be done. In general, GTA Natives only allows you to do one action at a time. You can chain them together, but then they are executed on at a time. Have found a few workarounds which are used for gun fire recording, but for most areas this is not possible. There may be a feature in the future to adjust existing recordings (no promises at this time)" That'd be pretty cool. One of these trainers has an option to limit an animation to the character's torso, I think, so I was hoping animations were more compartmentalized between skeletal bones. I guess. Did I mention how infuriated I was by "apply recording to all actors?" something slipped up and triggered that, and it ruined every actor I was working on, forcing me to start from scratch. Afterwords I kept thinking "What would I need that for?" So I probably should have mentioned that, as it was one of my biggest issues.
@dparnas9scenedirector8 жыл бұрын
will just reply to the last comment (but agree with most of the other stuff you say :) ) "apply recording to all actors" is meant as a quick way to play around and give multiple actors the same recording. However, it will only copy recording over to actors who do not currently have a recording. It will not overwrite any recordings. It should be fairly simple to revert this by removing recordings of the actors afterewards (but requires that you know which actors it got copied to)
