@Studeb7 ай бұрын
Knowing that they had no script for Iron Man and had to make it up as they went along, there is no way that that film should be as tight as it is. Just a small detail that I didn't even notice first time I watched it is when Pepper Potts is searching for the new suit that Obadiah Stane has had built, she finds Mk1 first, saying that it isn't very impressive. That is a great little detail that you normally see in a script that has gone through countless revisions. It also looks great considering how much older hardware and software was compared to most Marvel movies. I still think it's the best Marvel movie.

Break ups and heart breaks are almost harder to deal with than someone's death. Because they're still there and alive. Swingers managed to capture young adult male friendship at it's best, And every time you watch it that feeling comes through. Probably wont ever be replicated!
@matthewpeterson33297 ай бұрын
Amen! A few years before this movie came out, a small group of close friends and I found ourselves suddenly single at the same time, for no particularly similar reason. We were all between 21 and 24 years old and had steady girlfriends since before we were legal drinking age. The timing was uncanny, and we spent a few years partying together around San Diego, going to the same bars and pool halls and hangouts, mostly places that had local live music. We got to know all the doormen, bartenders, regulars, and made friends with some of the bands. When Swingers came out, one of the guys called and said, "Dude, you gotta go see this movie... it's gonna feel really familiar". Your comment about young adult male friendship was spot on.
@TheSuperappelflap6 ай бұрын
Its a movie about a bunch of guys partying, drinking and trying to get laid. Theres more to friendship than that. This is a superficial caricature of friendship.
@matthewpeterson33296 ай бұрын
@@TheSuperappelflap Yep, exactly what most single guys in their early twenties do, or did in the 90's. It might be a caricature, exaggerated slightly for the sake of fitting weeks or months of activity into a two hour window, but not superficial. And I would add that it was not necessarily about trying to get laid, but meeting women in general, and spending time with friends with the same goal. Finding someone you are attracted to, having the nerve to approach, investing enough time in a conversation to see if the person interests you beyond their appearance, and the awkward game of being genuine while also trying to put your best foot forward, is exactly how dating begins at ANY age. Nobody is as comfortable with a newly met person as they are once they've known each other a little while and all the armor is dropped. You wouldn't act the same in front of a new coworker as you would in front of your friends... friendships and relationships are seasoned with time, and hopefully the personality oddities that EVERYONE possess are endearing enough to move forward. And women have all the leverage, especially attractive women. It's rare for a woman to approach a man unless there is an immediate physical attraction, and it's rare for a man to dismiss a woman unless there is no physical attraction. The men nearly always have to make the first move, and that takes guts. This movie hits on all cylinders for most young men, especially at that time, because it is played from their perspective. Today, with online dating, you have a dossier of information before you ever meet. It's literally a cheat code. You never have to put in the work. That's kinda sad.
@TheSuperappelflap6 ай бұрын
@@matthewpeterson3329 The problem is that these movies only focus on the fun side of a friendship. While friendships are formed and cemented through overcoming tough times. When I was in my twenties, I had to study, I had to work a job on the side, after college I had to work full-time and commute for two hours a day, studying in the evenings for certifications. I didn't have time to go party or take roadtrips. A friend of mine killed himself and the rest of us, left behind, had to come to terms with that. That's how my friendships that last to this day were formed. Through overcoming our grief and loss and anger together. I never had a fun party phase like these movies show. It seems like a shallow and boring existence to me. Nothing about it seems real. I'm glad I spent my time on a real life and real friends instead.

This is a really great video, so no complaints on the quality, but I would have thrown in a bit about PCU, which Favreau did after Rudy and before Swingers. PCU is such a funny movie and it's a shame that it is completely unavailable.

I had no idea the extras were unaware for the most part (in Swingers). That's really cool and adds a richness to the film.

I always remember seeing the Swingers VHS tape cover on the shelves as a kid at my local video store, but never watched it, guess I'll have to check it out.

1:35 ya thats mythology. He video taped it for $7000, but the film transfer cost much much more and only happened once he sold it

I loved Swingers and it was a roadmap for a bad break up I had getting over the wrong girl. Major thanks to Favs for making it his way.

I'm not a film guy but I love hearing about the movie-making process, especially for the more indie stuff. It shows that great electronic media gets made when talented people build relationships with each other, get a good idea and a little money, and are allowed to work without undue input from non-artists.

Swingers proves that Guerilla filmmaking is the only sensible form of filmmaking. Everything is real, everyone is real, and most importantly, the cinematography is second to none. beautiful colors, beautiful lights, beautiful framing, it is not just a film that looks good, it is a film that looks correct.

its coming up to ELF time. I hate Christmas and am eternally grateful for Jon Favreau and Chevy Chase. Swingers is an incredible film. When it came out I went to see it, came out of the cinema, bought a ticket and went back in to watch it again. Its money.

This was super interesting. Thank you for this. Swingers is a classic and to know how it was made, makes it even more of a gem and something to respect. This was a good story of always sticking to your guns and be patient... if it's meant to be, it will be.

Just re-watched Swingers-Such an amazing time capsule from the 90’s that holds up incredibly well and is so much fun! Will always be one of my faves! The soundtrack, too 👌
