Basically, they got stopped by Covid. Leverkusen had practice since the 1st League was playing again, while Saarbrücken had not played a match for 2 months, since the 4rd League season was stopped prematurely. (That was not too bad for Saarbrücken, since they were on 1st place at that time 😇)

If Saarbrücken and Leverkusen both win their semi finals, will Saarbrücken as a tier 3 team, play in Europe League next year? Or is the spot given to next team in 1. Bundesliga? edit for context: German DFB Pokal winner used to get a starting spot für the UEFA Cup/Europe League. If the winner already starts CL or EL the Pokal runner up gets that spot. It may have changed some years ago and now one more team from 1.Bundesliga may play in EL.
