Some really great shots of a pair of Norfolk Southern SD40-2's! Don't see those in California, so this was a treat! I'll be watching this video more than once...

Dash twos - so much better looking than current slab-cab units. Good spot, too! Nice work, Matt.

You can say that again, I absolutely love the old Spartan Cabs! The new NS Admiral Cabs are a close second lol. Thanks a lot!

This is a pretty cool video. I remember back when I was working the Chief Dispatcher in Buffalo, we had a Mainline Derailment of SEEL at Palmyra, NY. I worked with the Hornell Chief for multiple detours over this line, (Lyons - Corning - Buffalo and vice versa). A couple of the detoured trains were Amtrak 48 and TV13, to mention a few.

Thank you sir! That must've been quite the sight to see some mainline traffic rolling through Geneva! I wondered whether or not the line connected with the present day CSX main. It doesn't appear to be used anymore north of Geneva, except for storage. You ever miss dispatching?

Grew up in Palmyra and remember a few derailments. Both over the interlocking by the Maple Ave crossing.

@@mattygunn693 I do miss dispatching, at least the way it was back then. I'd go crazy if I was dispatching with the current CTC equipment they have now. Quite frankly, it's literally the worst CTC displays I have ever seen. To make matters worse, most trains are using Trip Optimiser (making them go way slower than track speed) and removal of many Signaled Sidings would cause my blood pressure to go through the ceiling. I'd probably end up getting fired. Way better off, were I am.

@@rodneykantorski736 All the times I've heard the evening dispatcher about to blow a gasket, I'd say you made the right move haha. I'd imagine everything back in the day was so much better and easier without computers complicating things.

@@mattygunn693 Not so much the computers, but the CTC program they use on the computer. (Plus other field equipment set-ups that are bad) I had the privilege of visiting Amtrak's CTEC office in Boston, at the end of January. Amtrak and Keolis have done a fantastic job of setting up an office, featuring a large computer display that has tracks laid out in a continuous fashion, across the screens. The Conrail System in place (computer display) when I left dispatching was pretty good too.

Every year (except the pandemic years) I visit Watkins Glen in September, usually stop at FGLK for a visit (very railfan friendly) and have been trying to catch NS at the interchange in Penn Yan; never caught it yet. So thanks for sharing, Matty.

My pleasure! I tried to get this down around Watkins Glen, but I left home too late and when I finally saw them they were crossing Route 14 just north of Himrod. Next time lol. I love the Finger Lakes Railway, and I'll be sure to film them when I head back in spring! I've filmed them four times so far and the crews have been very friendly everytime!
