SCENIC TRAIN TRIP FROM LAHORE TO RAWALPINDI ON PAKISTAN RAILWAYS (PR).

We started our trip from Lahore & boarded the train at Pakistan Railways Station headed towards Rawalpindi. The trip takes approximately 4 hours and 15 minutes & covers a distance of 290 kilometers, traveling along a stretch of the Karachi-Peshawar Railway Line. The trip was very scenic. The train goes through a couple of tunnels (@12:52) through the Salt Range which was a cool experience. While going through the salt range in the Jhelum District you will notice that there aren't any big trees but just small bushes (@12:10) because of the intensity of the salt only certain small bushes have adapted in the region. The train goes through bridges over a few rivers & through lush green areas. It has stops over major junctions, cities & towns. There are cabins at the railway stations where a person is standing with a green flag signaling the train engineer to proceed.
The railway infrastructure was founded by the British in British India in 1861 with headquarters in Lahore. Following the partition of British India and independence of Pakistan in 1947, most of the North Western State Railway infrastructure was in Pakistani territory and was renamed the Pakistan Western Railway. In East Bengal, the portion of the Assam Bengal Railway in Pakistani territory was renamed the Pakistan Eastern Railway. Later on the name was changed to Pakistan Railways (PR).
The Pakistan Railways network is comprised of 7,791 kilometers with 7,789 kilometers of operational track across Pakistan, stretching from Peshawar to Karachi, offering both freight and passenger services, covering 488 operational stations across Pakistan. The PR is comprised of 7,346 km of broad gauge and 445 km of metre gauge. There are 625 stations in the network, 1,043 km of double-track sections and 285 km of electrified sections. Pakistan Railways carries 65 million passengers annually and operates 228 mail, express and passenger trains daily.
