Brandon these videos are great. I’m a soft pastel artist that have never gotten any lessons or guidance. I’ve never even kept a sketch book, but recently decided to just start drawing and leave the pastels for a little a bit and really focus on drawing which I’ve never done. Anyways, this video just made me realize that the reason why the few paintings I’ve made with soft pastels all look cartoonish is because I paint with too much hard edges. Thank you.

Proportions and shading are challenging. so if you can help. Its my challenge right now, I know I have to try and try until I get it. Then the painting will flow. Cheers.

Hello... Just wanted you to know that your videos have been extremely helpful. I started a local oil painting group and quickly realized most of the artists on board we're painting from photographs. Hi Brandon, I am studying garden design, which unfortunately seems to be predominantly CAD drawings. However, I much prefer the look of hand drawn sketched designs and therein lies the problem, my drawing skills. I'm really drawn to your style teaching sketching, you give very clear and practical advice. If you could do something along those lines of landscape drawing I would really appreciate it. Either way, love the tutorials, keep up the good work.

I want to be able to draw many different things so I find your approach helpful....but saying that I will mention I get overwhelmed by landscapes and cannot imagine drawing a forest setting for example.....current interests include water, clear glass, drapery, clouds,rocks and trees and the techniques that are involved.

They are excellent, I'm not sure how good my progress is just yet. I soldier on. I'm live by the sea and therefore my desire is really to be able to draw a beautiful dress sea scape. I'm still only using lead pencils but am having trouble bringing the page to life. There isn't a great deal of content - maybe a few birds and a couple of small fishing boats. Hi Brandon. I want to draw fictional creatures, or anything related to fiction or science-fiction, like dragons and Transformers. What suggestions can you give me to accomplish that? Thank you!
@SchaeferArt2 жыл бұрын
That's a great questions. I'm not sure to be honest. I don't draw fiction too much at all. I would still study things from real life, as most fiction like dragons and such are still based on reality. As far as structure and other things. Use a lot of reference photos and mix and match them and create your own creatures from those. Combine real animals together and make something new. Mayeb that's a good way to practice and use references before going from your head only. That's a big mistake.

You have taught me a lot so far, I am looking forward to learning a lot more from you. I am interested in learning anything outdoors, animals, scenery, (no buildings), nature, things like that. I started a photography class years ago, however the instructor was inappropriate and I quit, did manage to get a photo published in a book by the National Library of Photography though.
