The reason there's xylophones in Be Prepared is because it takes place in an elephant graveyard, and the hyenas are playing the bones as xylophones. I thought it was obvious.

Miss Núñez a lot of traditional African music is percussion based, so xylophones and other mallet instruments are used pretty frequently. So this might have been Disney’s attempt to implant more aspects of African culture into an already western story.

Hellfire still gives me chills. I watched Hunchback one time as a kid, and completely forgot it. Then I watched it as an adult and absolutely fell in love. The first scene with the Bells of Notre Dame completely captured my attention, and Hellfire cemented it as one of my favorite movies. It's got problems, especially when it comes to tone (and fuck the gargoyles), but it's still a fantastic movie, and Hellfire is definitely the high point. The "It's not my fault, if in God's plan, he made the devil so much stronger than a man" line still gets me every time.
@narisha62356 жыл бұрын
I love this movie, it's my favorite from Disney I have to admit. And the most amazing thing is that the soundtrack gets even more powerful and capturing in the musical.

The Hunchback of Notre Dame is some heavy shit, and I love it. It's just such a good movie (but I feel like the gargoyles are the only reason they scored a G rating. Had to lighten the tone for the kiddos).

Hellfire is the best song that I have encountered. I love it with all my heart but..is a song about a 80 year old man falling in love for a 27 year old woman.....BUT JUST IGNORE THAT
@narisha62356 жыл бұрын
Yeah the book is really dark, but kinda hard to read with all the cathedral and city parts. Also Gringoire is just an...idiot. I do like what the movie did with the characters though. The Esmeralda from the film was so much better than the one in the book, who was also a bit...dumb. I think the Musical strikes a pretty nice balance between the book and the disney film. It makes Frollo a priest again, which is a nice twist and keeps the ending where everyone just dies.
@narisha62356 жыл бұрын
The gargoyles are the only shit thing about the movie tbh. I don't even mind making Frollo a judge instead of a priest. And the soundtrack is just straight up the best from any disney movie.

I know! It's one of my all time favorites and I wish it were longer. I'd love to hear why he thinks the song is overrated.
@KoverKid934 жыл бұрын
It’s a perfect subversion of a jaunty, funny song about an overprotective mother turned into a sadistic abuser that shows the audience how dangerous Rapunzel’s home life truly was. One of the only criticisms i have for Tangled is that it tells the audience at the beginning that Gothel is the bad guy and what her motives are. Without that detail, she could have been one of the best twist villains because she’s so likable in the first half of the movie.
@RandomDragonEXE4 жыл бұрын

I honestly think you missed out on including Mother Knows Best on this list. I feel like it perfectly illustrates an entirely different kind of villain, namely one that we all see in our daily lives. The scary thing about Mother Gothel isn't some kind of devious plan, it's that she's an abusive mother. The song masterfully shows how narcissistic parents manipulate their children, making them feel horrible while still acting like the good guy. I personally grew up with a mother like her, so the song really resonates with me. Some of the lyrics are quite obvious looking in, but for someone actually in that situation, they aren't obvious at all, because they're just normalized to them. Furthermore, the song has many subtleties as well. Basically, there's a very good reason why so many people like this song.

I feel like the Latin parts in Hellfire really get overlooked in terms of lyrics, mostly because nobody speaks Latin anymore. The first part that precedes the beginning we all know by heart reads as “Confiteor Deo Omnipotenti Beatae Mariae semper Virgini Beato Michaeli archangelo Sanctis apostolis omnibus sanctis Et tibit Pater Quia peccavi nimis Cogitatione Verbo et opere” translating to something like “I confess to God almighty, To blessed Mary ever Virgin, To the blessed archangel Michael, To the holy apostles, to all the saints, and to you father, that I have sinned, in my words and in what I have done”. These are the parts to the Catholic church’s Confiteor, which is in very direct contrast to the tone Frollo is setting for himself. The voices from the heavens reflect his corruption, by quoting the Lord and telling him that humans are sinful beings, and must confess their evil and sin to the Lord above to truly be worthy of the Kingdom of heaven. In the part where he deflects blame from his own faults onto both Esmerelda and unto God, the hooded figures repeatedly say “Mea culpa, mea maxima culpa” translating to “My fault, my most grievous fault”. Again, in direct contradiction to the tone Frollo is setting. I think this reflects that part of him knows that he’s at fault; a part of himself he verbally denies in saying it’s not his fault.

Kill the Beast/ Mob Song from Beauty and the Beast is such an underrated song. Although Gaston lists his attributes and why they like him, Kill the Beast/ Mob Song is the reason why he is a strong villain. Most people would flee from such a monster even gathered in a mob, but Gaston can galvanize the crowd to do as he wants. Willing to sacrifice their lives in righteous anger for his bidding. And the image of Gaston as he towers over the people in the intro shows his derangement as they gossip about horrific stuff he spins in their minds.

@@nra3zehuti781 don't get me wrong, Be Prepared (1994) is my jam and it's absolutely a delight and I fucking love every second of it, but... to me Hellfire is the true masterpiece in terms of Disney villain songs. From a technical and lyrical standpoint it really displays a completely twisted, horrible monster in all of his darkness and evil. It's repulsive, and yet it's still beautiful due to the choruses in the background, the visuals, the colors, the drama. Again, I absolutely love Be Prepared and to me it's a close second because I absolutely adore Scar as a villain and he's also a marvelous drama queen I love with every bit of my being, but... Frollo completely unraveling while fire literally wraps him up and leaves him with a mix of confusion and lust and pure unfiltered darkness consuming him is my favorite thing out of the two. Be Prepared is more of a bop to dance and sing along to, though, I'll give you that.

The Great Mouse Detective is so underrated in general. Honestly, this was the movie that really got everything back on track after nearly 2 decades of alright to awful Disney films, the last good one being the Jungle Book in 1967. Hellfire is the obvious #1, Be Prepared is widely regarded as 2nd as well considering the imagery and what happens afterwards. Schaffrillas loves Tamatoa, so Shiny was bound to be high on the list as well. Finally, Gaston is also slightly better due to the nature of what's going on with the glorification of a cruel strongman character. Poor Unfortunate Souls is basically just Ursula (a notorious con-artist/witch) swindling Ariel (a lovestruck, airhead teenage girl). Granted, she's doing it with a boatload of style, but compared to what the other 4 songs imply is happening/will happen, it doesn't quite match up in terms of villainousness. It definitely should be swapped into 5th place though.

Louie is actually more menacing in the 2016 version and one of the favorite remake villains.
@SpaceTreeStudios7 жыл бұрын
The remake was actually what got me to think about Louie as a villain in the first place, since they played him up as a malevolent force more. In the original it's more subtext than outright said (mostly cause the song is 90% of Mowgli and Louie's interaction between each other). Whereas in the remake we've already been told about the effects of fire and it's implications in the jungle, so Louie comes off more of an outright villain than an implied one in the original. Also I think the remake enhanced Shere Khan as a villain too and made him way more menacing.
