Great review! Can‘t decide between the E-1 Apocalypse or the E-1 Evil Twin. Very nice guitar!
@WesGuitaroholics3 жыл бұрын
Hey, welcome to the channel! I gotta say, as a certifiable Schecter fanboy, you can’t go wrong with either one. I have 3 Schecters and have played many more and have never played a bad one. The only real difference between the Apocalypse and the Evil Twin is in the pickups. I have not played Fishman Fluence pickups yet, so I can’t really say anything about them. They are pooping up on a lot of high end guitars here lately, and the description sounds like they are pretty versatile. I think I waxed ecstatic about the pups in the Apocalypse enough you know I dig ‘em! Comes down to if you want to change batteries. Aesthetically, it is all personal taste. LOVE the reverse headstock! LOVE the natural finish on the back. The blacked out look up front with the gloss finish just doesn’t do it for me. I am not gigging anymore, so stage presence isn’t as important to me. The Apocalypse wins for me because I can see the wood grain, feel the relic finish on the hardware, and the light stain lets me feel more connected to the guitar. That being said, the Evil Twin lives up to its name; it looks EVIL!!! Whichever one you decide on, please let me know how you like it! Thanks for watching, and keep on rockin’!

@@WesGuitaroholicsThanks for the information about the pups! I‘ll definetely let you know which one visits me :) Still gotta save up a little bit, but both guitars look and soubd great. They fit perfectly for the style of band I‘m looking after, soundwise and visually. I really dig explorer shaped guitars in general, but these two set the bar to a whole new level in my opinion. I haven‘t had the chance to try either of the pups, but either way both sound incredible.

The schecter looks nicer too, they are using the same design that made the Peavey rotor explorer so cool. Now I got to decide between the Jackson demeltion white, which has a string through body, or this schecter.

Looks like the main differences are active EMGs vs the Schecter passives and a solid color gloss finish vs the much lighter satin stain. You can’t really go wrong either way! Lemme know what you decide! 🤘🏻😎🤘🏻

@@WesGuitaroholics I have soft spot for the emg 81/60 set....and have always used schecter guitars,the quality Is always amazing..... But I really like the string through bridge and active set up on the Jackson.... going to have to toss a coin on this one.

@@ILLRICARDO I am a big fan of the visible wood grain (my Mod Shop Strat is proof!) and the passives are really good on the Schecter. Added bonus of coil splits, too. The Jackson is quite a bit less expensive and EMGs always rock, so there’s no wrong answer. If you can shoot a vid when you get whichever you get, I’d love to see it!

@@stingraydelgadillo60 I have that Line6 and it’s great as long as you don’t need to change settings LOL If you are looking for a practice combo with room to grow, check out the Peavey Vypyr. It will handle electric, acoustic, and bass. It does not like really hot pickups, though. I LOVE my Yamaha THR 10 watt for practice; I got the metal version and it sounds phenomenal. The Fender Mustang is pretty versatile, but I have not had much experience with it myself to truly recommend it. @@yoursensei8837 Thanks for the kind words! I hope Santa rocks as hard as you and leaves an Apocalypse under the tree! Okay, I have a question for you: how do you like the Syn signature? Had a buddy asking about that guitar just the other day. I have a Schecter set up like his, Floyd Rose, Sustainaic, and all, and absolutely love it. Just wondering how comfy the body is and how you like the tone? When it comes to active electronics, I usually prefer Seymour Duncan to EMG, but opted to keep that one stock as those pups just work in it. Would you consider swapping the bridge pickup, or is it just right as is? Thanks again for watching and subscribing, and I hope to hear you shredding that Apocalypse soon!
@yoursensei88373 жыл бұрын
@@WesGuitaroholics so I have the newest model syn sig, and it's honestly my favorite guitar I've ever played. It's got the American "synbucker" in the bridge, and even though it's passive, it's a great sounding pickup. I wouldn't change it at all, I love the sound. I have played some of the older ones too, with the invader pup, and even though I really like it I could understand changing it. The body is super comfy, the belly cut and arm contour are awesome, but the neck through is the best part, really comfy thin neck all the way through. My only complaint would be that the Floyd system puts a little on the heavier side, but it's not that bad at all. Add in luminlays and really nice fretwork and it's a guitar that's absolutely worth it. If I had the cash I'd have another tuned to e standard, they're that good. Hope this helps, and thanks again for the encouraging words!

@@yoursensei8837 thanks man, that’s a good review! I didn’t realize there was a new version, so I’ll have to track one down and try it out 😈My very modded Tele has an Invader and it’s pretty badass! Gotta see what the Synbucker can do! If the FR action is too heavy, try taking out one of the springs, or reconfiguring the spring placement. That, with a quick setup, might make it a much more usable system. Gracais my friend!

Good video Wes thanks for taking the plunge on making an unboxing bid. I too am a Schecter fan and I’m really leaning toward an E1. I was curious your thoughts on comparison between the Apocalypse you have vs the LTD Snakebyte. I’ve been a huge Metallica fan forever so the draw for a signature model is there but the E1 just calls to me. Do you have an opinion between the two being the cost is same. Maybe a comparison video as I couldn’t find one yet.
@DaMustaine4 жыл бұрын
Chad Wagner honestly I would go with the Schecter because it has a bigger variety of colours and is practically the same as the snakebyte

@WesGuitaroholics4 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I have not played the Snakebyte, but I would go with the Schecter on this one. I have an LTD V that’s badass, along with the Kirk Hammett Ouija and they’re fantastic instruments. I give points to the Apocalypse for tonal variety; EMGs tend to just sound like EMGs no matter what they’re in. The Ouija has EMG Bonebreakers and they’re definitely the exception. I believe the Snakebyte has 81/85s and they do MëTâL extremely well! Just not much else. The Schecter has a wide range and the added advantage of splitting the coils. If I can get my hands on a Hetfield, I’ll do a side by side. Hope that helped!

@@WesGuitaroholics Checked it out, mahogany Strat is so cool, always love mahogany because I think it affects the tone (most people wont believe me) but since I started playing guitar the guitar tones of Master Of Puppets and And Justice For All albums are my favourite. I'm 17 now and I've been playing for 3 years now I don't have much budget to get near those tones, found a used Epiphone Explorer with EMGs on for $600 probably is the one I'm gonna buy
@WesGuitaroholics Жыл бұрын
@@thrashefe3523 Thanks for subscribing! There are a lot of options in the $600 range, and I would encourage you to find something with passive pickups at this point. The EMGs are good for metal, but not super versatile. I have Kirk Hammett’s signature Ouija with his EMGs, and they’re phenomenal! The standard 81/85? I much prefer the Seymour Duncan Blackout if you’re wanting to stick with actives. If you do get the EMGs, keep in mind another $200 will give you the upgrade to the Blackouts and a little more will get the KH signature Bonebreakers. Trust me, I based every I knew about guitar in high school on Hammett’s style and guitar choices. If you can find something with neck through, 24 frets, and a Floyd (if that’s your thing), pups can be upgraded relatively easy. Happy shredding!

@@WesGuitaroholics Thanks, your words are important to me as you're a more experienced guitarist. I now have an Ibanez XP300FX that I got for $265 so I'll be using my new guitar for E standard tuning and this ibanez for D standard tuning, I'm not actually liking the tone I get from Ibanez so I'll install a Seymour Duncan Invader as the bridge pickup, I think It will be a nice upgrade. I'm not a big fan of active pickups and having need to change batteries but EMG 81 tone that I like because of James Hetfield, If I like the Seymour Duncan Invader I might put a set of those into my new guitar as well
@WesGuitaroholics Жыл бұрын
@@thrashefe3523 that Ibanez is a very cool looking guitfiddle, and the Wizard neck is no joke! What kind of amp are you using? A good modeling amp can make just about anything sound good. But I tell ya what, I’ll do a pickup comparison so you can see what sounds best to you with a little less trial and error. I can put the EMG 81 against the SD Blackout, and throw in the EMG KH Bonebreakers for good measure. Actually, I have SD Invaders on a couple axes as well, so we can hear that, too. Oh, and if you do go with an Epiphone you should consider Gibson Dirty Fingers… I have a set in my Gibson SG and they handle metal like nobody’s business! This won’t be a perfect comparison because they’re in different guitars and I’m too lazy to do a swap, but it should give you a better idea of what will work for your style. Buddy, I am always down to talk guitfiddles so just let me know if you want my input before throwing your money down on an axe. does it have neck dive? I had a t-bird and it sank deep in the ground... this looks great but if the neck goes down... man..
@WesGuitaroholics3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the question! There is little to no neck dive. If you skip to 12:35, I do stand up and talk about it a bit. Now that I’ve been playing this guitar for a while, I can say it handles a strap no problem, with virtually no dive. It’s a big guitar, but an extremely well balanced one. I keep talking about comfort with this guitar, and it is hard not to! Sitting, standing, whatever, it handles it! I would caution against stage diving, though; that beast could kill someone! Happy shredding!

How is the neck profile? I read someone's review on Sweetwater saying it had a chunky neck? I am hoping this is somewhat true even though Schecter refers to this as a thin C. It's hard to find an explorer that is not a super slim neck profile. Thanks!
@WesGuitaroholics4 жыл бұрын
Charlie Schueneman I wouldn’t go so far as to say the neck is chunky, but you’ll never mistake it for an Ibanez! Honestly, I would put it between a Les Paul and a Strat; you have plenty to hold on to, but it never feels cumbersome. If you saw my review of the KH Ouija, I said that neck encouraged you to play faster. This neck feels speedy, but you really feel like you have a hand full of quality wood. No pun intended. For comparison, my Jem JR and even my Ibanez 7 string feels like there’s almost nothing under your palm. This feels like you’re picking up a big guitar (and it IS big!) but handles like a comfortable SG or LP. In my experience, Schecter necks are all a little meatier than you’d expect from a shredder, but comfy and confidence inspiring. If you get a chance to play one in person, TAKE IT! If this is an online order situation, I’d say go for it. Sweetwater has the best customer service and will do a return if you don’t dig it with no problem. I’m going to run it through my 6505 this weekend, so let me know if you wanna see anything in particular! Thanks for watching!

If you've played an ESP or LTD it should feel right at home, same nut width (42mm) and thickness at 1st and 12th fret (20-22mm) biggest difference is that ESP is a Thin U and Schecter is Thin C.
@Dracarys.tv.official3 жыл бұрын
So how is IT to tap ?
@WesGuitaroholics3 жыл бұрын
The action is pretty low right out of the box. I could drop it a little, but the riffing wouldn’t be as clean. So even with the standard setup, I have had no trouble tapping on the Apocalypse. While the neck does feel a little chunky at first, it really is a fast neck and it’s not hard to tap, sweep, squeal, or whatever lead tricks you bust out! I do find myself reaching for the bar pretty often, but the majority of my guitars have floating bridges. This just feels like one of the shredders and sometimes I’m surprised that FR didn’t magically appear mid solo! So if you’re a right hand fanatic, you can get this guitar and tap away!
