Sounds great, but shouldn't it be 8x 32th notes instead of a roll at 1:12? I think if Korsakov have wanted a roll, he would have written the "tr~" above the note. The "///" across the note is just an indicator for deviding the note (In this case: "/" --> 8ths, "//" --> 16ths, "///"--> 32ths).

Hannes, Thanks for watching. I have often thought about this and it does sound good to use 32nd notes at the spot you're speaking of. However, the notation is inconsistent, as three slashes are used 4 bars before I, and those are played as rolls. 32nd notes would sound inappropriate there. So, at G, we do rolls here in the US. Again, it is legit to do 32nd notes and I think it sounds great, but it makes more sense to do rolls to stay consistent with the notation that happens later in the music. We can see the same treatment in the fourth movement at bar 16 and bar 20 of W. To play 32nd notes on those 8th note figures as indicated is impossible, so essentially those are rolls just at the trill markings are before and after these bars. I have pondered these issues for years, and, at least in this country, the roll is common practice at G in mvt. 3. Thanks!!
