Very true! I had a red oak log that was sitting on the ground for three years don’t ask me why! but when I started cutting it up the outside was just a little punky but the inside was still very solid as a rock! I got to say cutting oak is my favorite firewood!

Nice score! You made a good point on not getting rid of the dually! I try to always split right out of the truck so I don’t have to unload rounds and then pick them back up to split. Bad part is only having one truck it ties your truck bed up until you get the wood split! If you kept the dually as a secondary truck you could leave wood on it until you had time to split. 👍🏻👍🏻🍺🍺

Awesome score on the roadside score, those are the best as it's all free and alot if folks won't even mess with it as it s too big for them to handle. I do the same as when I see wood laying along roads and watch how long it lays before anybody gets it. Definitely looks like the dually enjoys a good workout as much as you do. Ah yes, the free with a bit of effort wood. Gotta love it! Nice find! My recent "find" was actually somebody else's, lol. Guy texted me to tell me the load of oak and apple he was selling me was ready- and oh, yeah, My neighbor's pear tree blew over in the windstorm, and he offered it to me. Interested? Damn right I am! You don't see that every day. Got about 1.25 face cords of nice pieces out of it, and only a little bit was limbs. Like apple, it's incredibly dense wood, rock hard, and heavy as one, too.

That is a great road side logging score! Maybe a little work, but you and your guns made it look easy! I would had to have halved or quarter them. I honestly would keep the dually and make it your firewood truck. I bought my dads single cab 3500 duramax with 107,000 miles on it for 10k just for that and if something happens to it, I got a back up. I also have a 1981 square body dump truck. That i use for deliveries and getting rounds home. Ive taken an 8 foot 2" x 12" board with angle iron and used that to roll rounds on the truck. You are way stronger than me though! Ive gotten so much wood from the side of the road. Here in NH the state "owns" I think its 17 feet from the center line of the road so they can cut down and limb whatever they deem appropriate. When I talked to the state worker you have to get permission from the land owner to take it if the state doesn't. Unfortunately ive had homeowners tell me no to taking it and sadly theres so many (now rotted) logs on the side of the road... People have no idea the value of wood and its a shame to see logs rotting everywhere on the sides of the road cause people dont do anything or dont "want" anyone to do anything with it! Glad you got that wood!

I thought I could find some roadside oak, but that's a great score. I agree with you on the smaller footprint, but I use a 4x4 Tacoma that can really get you into small spots. On the other hand, I would have to bring my ramp trailer to roll that wood on because there's no way I could lift those rounds. At 63, there's plenty I can still do, but not that kind of lifting. Nice video.

At least twice a year people try to cut roadside wood by my house, and police come along and explain it’s not their property and they need to leave, without the wood they have cut. A week or two later the parks department comes by and cleans up the mess to prevent others from getting the same idea. Fallen wood stays where it falls in a nature preserve.

I’ve packed and loaded rounds, but have found it is much easier to split the logs before loading. You can fit more firewood too!

That's a good looking load of fire wood you got there and easy to get to is definitely a win win. But don't make the mistake I did years ago I cut a load of fire wood and couldn't get it all on my truck so I had to leave about half a truck load behind for half a day, when I came back for the rest somebody must have needed it more than I did needless to say lesson learned.👊👊✌✌

There’s a ton of free oak in front of someone house that the electric company had cut down but it’s sitting in a ditch and the closet place to park is 30 feet away from the wood which seems to covered around in vines 🤦🏻‍♂️😫 some heavy stuff to haul even with a dolly
