The fine curly trails are actually muons. Gamma rays are invisible in a cloud chamber. But great video😁 i have tried making my own but i couldn't get the temperature low enough. i guess i will have to try again as i have wanted one for a long time 😅

There are some pretty inexpensive kits available online if you don’t want to go about sourcing and designing it yourself

I built a thermo electric cloud chamber 2 years ago! I wish I had this video before I started it took me months and several $100s in the learning process and adding a heater is something I had to figure out on my own!

Awesome mate, i know how much has gone into this project, and its been great working in parallel to your build to avoid some of the issues and help you do the same.

thanks mate! Hopefully, your build goes smoother than mine did!

Intriguing and nicely made! Hope you get some traction with this.

That is an awesome and effective build! #respect

Just a couple notes: (232)Th decay is alpha only, and you can't see gamma-rays directly in a cloud chamber as they are not ionized particles.

This is so much better than electrobooms, I can't believe the lack of views or comments! I'm having a blast learning things from you man this stuff is great!

I like what you have done. Just one small thing though. Alpha and Beta radiation are particles, not rays. It's Gamma that are rays/waves.

I thought the same too - for all this knowledge to make such a basic mistake is surprising!

My gamma spectrometer shows that my wood cabinets are enough to stop the radiation from the uranium on my fiestaware, thorium lantern mantel, and ion chamber from my smoke detector. I am likely getting more radiation from my granite countertop. Distance is the best protection from low levels of gamma so being a few feet back would be adequate protection. Having it in a lead castle is excessive unless you are dealing with industrial radiation sources.

Very thorough! I have a question for you: How long does your set up run until the alcohol is puddled on the bottom plate?
@Schematix5 жыл бұрын
Thanks, I'd say around 3~5mins until the floor of the chamber is completely wet with alcohol

Great job! Looks like it could be the brother of the one we just built, mind if we link to you from our video? (See: physics anonymous). Also a couple easy things that might improve its efficiency: something that makes a labyrinth seal around the dome will both help contain the alcohol and keep errant flow from creeping in through the base. Also if you can come up with a high enough current buck converter- running the top peltiers at 4v will make a lot less heat from them and the surface will drop several more degrees. Anyway that's one very cool looking chamber, and love the clean surface look!

Hi Ryan, Thanks for your comment & support. It seems between you, me & electroboom. Cloud chambers are the favorite of the month! You're welcome to link to my video. Do you mind if I link to your build? You've built an impressive cloud chamber too!

It seems like making these can be touchy. How difficult is it to make one of these with a bigger footprint?
@Schematix5 жыл бұрын
That's a great question, one I've asked myself during this build. My opinion is that if you wanted a bigger cold plate. It would be logical to move away from Peltiers and onto compressor & refridgerant system. Which is something I'd like to build in the future when my KZbin budget grows

Sorry, I did not catch what creates the coldness ?

Earth is flat bro. No joke. So first you can proof that earth is a globe. Then, first then you can start talking about this space nonsense.
@Schematix5 жыл бұрын
There are bigger issues to address than is the earth flat. First I've got to find an answer to: Why did the chicken cross the road?

I suppose a discussion about entanglement is out of the question then?
