Yea Karl it's alright I think. Better than I was expecting. It doesn't feel premium although it seems to do the job just fine and for the money it performs as expected I think. I'm not a fan of keyless chucks on drill presses so this one fits the bill for me.

Nice video . I have just bought one to replace my Wolf bench pillar drill high was belt driven. As others have mentioned, the handle is awful I can't imagine what was in the designers mind. The handle does work OK but it is just weired. The spring loaded spigot on the chuck key is a very good idea from a safety perspective ( it prevents you leaving the key inplace) however, it makes it very fiddly put the key in and keep it there when tightening the chuck. A really good addition would have been somewhere to keep the key when not in use! The work piece clamp is very goods but there is no way to drill holes other than perpendicular ..separate tables allow the table to moved through 90 deg from the horizontal ; this drill can not do this. The instructions are very poor and it took me hours to work out how to set the depth stops. I would have preferred a digital read out for the depth travel and I Think the 60 model has this like the Bosch machine. It is quite and the electronic speed control is a boon over the old belt system. It is a big irreverent over the old type machines

To check the rotary shaft for sloppy bearings, just fit a 10mm drill bit. Grab point of drill and try to move it left / right front / back.

Thanks Phill, interesting to see a more in depth review for this machine. I've seen mixed views on the drill especially regarding drilling metals and accuracy, but it looked fine in your review and it seems it should be OK for most DIY workshop use. TBH there is a similar drill from Bosch which is much more expensive and still has mixed reviews, I think a lot comes down to your expectations of a DIY machine !

Hi Andy I suspect the drill bits people are using are influencing their opinion as well. I have a small silverline drill press very budget indeed but when I use famag drill bits it will cut through iron wood like butter. I think this scheppach drill look a good contender against the Bosch.
@PhillWyattProjects11 ай бұрын
Hi Andy 👍🏻 yes and I think it also comes down to luck. I think I got a good one straight out of the box. I'm not always so lucky when buying a new tool. With this one they seem to have simplified it and revised issues that the earlier models had even though it is the cheapest one they do I think it's decent. I was looking at the Bosch model although it's almost double the price of this one so that put me off a bit.

If you hold the end of the drill bit when mounted in the chuck and wobble it, is there much play?

Knowing the distance between the shaft and the centre of the chuck would be helpful.

The DP60 has a huge feature over this, it has 2 gears. Unless you can get DP55 ridiculously cheap and need it only for very light drilling, I would (and did) absolutely get DP60 instead.
@Stu813 ай бұрын
The extra price isn't worth the lower rpm speed for wood working, still the same max rpm but unless you do a lot of metal work it's a pointless feature, it doesn't offer any more drilling capacity both are 280mm chuck to base.

Any chance this drill could make a ~50mm hole saw work on 18mm plywood? The equivalent Parkside drill failed miserably.

It doesn't need one. The base is the table. The drill comes to the table.
