(not saying you need one, because you DON'T, just maybe for my sixty year old ears, which are not what they used to be) I didn't realize they had one available till after the order was shipped, either way, you don't expect to find this sort of thing on specialist audio websites....However I'm not sure if there would be much difference with the Modius and Asgard stack, It certainly would be interesting to see them reviewed........... I bought this purely for headphone listening, I'm using high-end headphones. I have nothing else. I have to say the sound is like nothing I've ever experienced. I've had my headphones plugged into some very high end amps, didn't seem to be a big deal for me..the Schiit IS A BIG DEAL....seriously, I also bought a decent usb cable, around thirty dollars. (there isn't a cable supplied.) Yes I know you can buy a car for the same price as some cables......

I will make it easier for you, I got Jot 2 and Asgard 3 (for a friend) so I could try out Asgard also. Well turns out I love Asgard and don't enjoy Jot 2 because it's "too exciting" when pushing it loud. So I'm selling Jot 2 and ordered another Asgard for myself.

I'm using mine as a headphone amp. It replaced my magni 3. Bottom line: it delivers more detail than the magni 3. This will be obvious on good headphones.

I just got back from the Shiitr and I feel much better :) I tried all the amps and dacs. I found the Mjolnir 2 to be awesome and my favorite. I was surprised by the Asgard 3 and it was my second favorite by being slightly less satisfactory than the Lyr 3, but 300 cheaper! I liked the Asgard more than the Jotunheim, which is saying something because the last time I went there (a year ago) I thought the Jotunheim was my favorite.

Ive been really interested in the Asgard 3/multibit DAC combo vs the new JDS Labs Element 2 for an all-in-one space saving unit for home. I wouldnt need balanced but I do love my Jotunheim and would also consider saving the extra for a Jot/Multibit combo as well. What do you think of those options?

I haven't used the Jotenheim, so I can't really say. I agree that you don't need balanced (nobody does, really) so I'd get what appeals to you most, with the features you want.

Have you compared the SE output from a Jotunheim to the Asgard 3? Would you think that the SE output of the Asgard 3 (or even a 3+) would best the Jotenheim in terms of quality? Obviously the Asgard 3 has more power, but that doesn't make it necessarly better. Curious for your thoughts. Using Dt1990 Pro, Modhouse Argons and T60 RPs in SE. The Fostex's obviously being a bit power hungry.

Jot does not sound good at all in SE. I'm guessing you would want to always use it balanced. Just received my A3 today and it's driving T50 RP mkIII like a boss. Very smooth. Lots of detail. Effortless because of the power.

Thank you for the video about Schiit !!!!. I am looking for a simple auxiliary Amp to enhance my Basement Studio setup. Would this Amp be serviceable to be connected to the Preout (Zone 2) on my Denon DRA-800H Receiver. I am looking to amplify the Preout signal from the Denon to be connected to the Schiit SAGA+ which is being used as "splitter" . I have a TEAC Cassette Deck , Tascam CD Player /Recorder , another TEAC combo CD/Cassette/ USB (records to USB or Cassette), and AT-LP120XBT-USB TT. Using the SAGA+ 2 outputs , 1 is connected to the Tascam CD recorder . The idea is to have any one of the attached units to be able to record to the Tascam w/o having to switch input wires. All opinions are much appreciated.

I have Hifiman Sundara with source as Hiby R6. I am very looking forward to get Asgard3 with Multibit DAC but too tempted with THX 789. But confused if missing on dedicated DAC by going for THX is a good idea since i will be using R6 DAC? I would have love to wait for your Asgard3 vs THX 789 comparison but i have to make a decision in 3 days due to some shipping constraints. could you please share your recommendation ?

beyerdynamic suggests 100mW at 600 ohms to run dt 880 600 ohm. asgard 3 provides 300mW at 600 ohms so its more than enough... although one thing to note is that 600 ohm beyers like tube amps. something like feliks audio echo mk2 or schiit valhalla 2 would be better pairing for dt 880 600 ohm. but asgard 3 will be more versatile as it can run inefficient planars very well while tube amps cannot.

Hard to say. I reckon if you have at least one pair of very good high-impedance headphones (eg: HD800) and listen to good-quality recordings, then you'd possibly notice an upgrade to the Bifrost. If you're thinking of upgrading the amp in the future, then the Bifrost might be more preferably as well.

I think you have the names confused. Modi = DAC Magni = amp Asgard = amp, but you can buy it with a DAC card inside for extra, making it a DAC/amp.

Schiit sells basic cables, but there are a lot of good, basic cables available from Monoprice, Blue Jeans and others. I tend to recommend better cables than those only if you're already spending a fair bit more on the headphones and components.

I didn't receive my Lyr 3 with the stock tube. I asked for B-stock and the Tung Sol is what I got. But how it sounds depends quite a bit on the tube.

I have sp200. The sound is your typical transparent thx amp sound. Excellent for the price! But there r a couple of flaws that might make or break the purchase: 1) low gain is still too loud for sensitive headphones or earphones. 2) channel imbalance at low volume knob turn (less than 9 o clock), and will exaggerate the problem at point number 1 3) volume knob not smooth 4) ugly (subjective i know)

The Magni Heresy has the same power and linear, transparent sound with anything above 16 ohms. There's virtually no distortion and it's only $99.

Gerald Ken How sensitive? I have a Focal Elegia and the Bowers & Wilkins P9. I’m especially concerned about the P9, since its impedance is 22 Ohms and sensitivity is 111db. I listen at moderate levels. Would I be forced to keep the volume below the undesirable 9 o’clock area where channel imbalance becomes an issue?

I had the original Asgard, and it was a hot unit because it was a pure Class A. But as Currawong said, the Asgard 3 is not. I demo it and it is just like any Class AB amp.

I am fairly new to the whole headphone world, just got a pair of Quad Era-1 headphones. They sound pretty good and are easy to drive. today I use my Marantz SA7001 CD-players headphone jack, but I do think I can improve soundwise by getting an amp. The Asgard 3 is one of the contenders. Have you tried the Quads and do you think there will be any problems considering they are so easy to drive 20 Ohms, 94db/mW, input power 100mW?

I tried out Asgard 3 today compared with Lyr 2. I connected Hugo 2 and HD600 with both amps. It seems to me Asgard 3 is great amp. Surprisingly, it works well on Metallica. I noticed (maybe the test unit I tried was straight from the box), the sound stage was flat - more 2 dimensional. If you want more warm lady sounds or instrumental soundtrack, I prefer Lyr 2. Probably Lyr 3 is better than Lyr 2 I tested. Will see.

I think I prefer the 2 to the 3. I am using ZMF Eikons, which are a higher impedence can. Im imagining that the A2 is just better suited for the higher impedence cans is because they stay class A through the enitre volume/power level. The A3 might come out of pure A to AB at my listening level. The A2 chasis is better built. The metal that wraps around also comes around to the bottom. On the A3, Lyr 3 and BiFrost 2 you can see it doesnt and the bottom has the thinner metal exposed (that you can see on the sides). The A2 is more musical. It sounds more organic. The A3 is probably a bit better on detail retrieval and sounds less smeared at times or confused, it is harsher on vocals and other high frequency sounds like symbals. And my Crack amp smokes both of these. My reason for buying these was to have a SS amp which would be more reliable and sound as good as the Crack (for some things SS just isnt as good and you can say visa versa but within reason. Thats just the nature of the SS vs tube beast) but for that I will have to spend a bit more money on an SS amp and if Im going to spend that much money I might just get a higher end Tube amp like a woo 2 or a cracka two etc... and use the crack or asgard for backup and day to day listening.

I just received a Asgard 2 and Bifrost Gen5 on ebay for a great price new. So far I'm enjoying the Asgard 2, but have been debating getting the 3. I may just stick with the 2 for now. I really don't have experience with many Schiit products. I have the Magni Heresy also, along with the Modi. The A2 and Bifrost seem to have a bit more oomph behind them, but my ears are not that refined.

Yeah, I have the Aspard3 and just "upgraded" to the Jotenheim2 on your suggestion of getting a "nice improvement". Single ended or balanced, I hear almost zero difference between the amps. I've compared them directly back and forth single ended and balanced both and i doubt I'd be able to tell them apart in a blind test. There can't be 2-3% differnce between them and even then it might be my imagination.

Not that I know of. I don’t know about “best DAC”. Whatever fits your budget? Schiit did just announce the Modi 3+ with Unison USB for $99. But then, the Asgard 3 is nice with a Bifrost as well.

I've not yet used the Modius to give an answer to that. I'd just get the Asgard 3 first and see how it feels using it as an amp for the Mojo. There's no point in buying another DAC when you already have one with the Mojo I reckon.

@@Currawong I bought the Lyr 3. But has a problem with the mute relay. Mutes for 10 secs and the sound come back (normal listening after warm-up). In low/high gain, headphones, speakers. Apparently Is a common problem. Did you experience something similar? Regards!

Hi! Nice review Thanks! You think it pairs well with the chord mojo or Ifi idsd nano bl? Currently I trying between this two for versatility and I want to pair with a headphone amp. In the past I had a SMSL SP200 and Topping NX4 and SMSL SU8 but didn't sound natural(too much digital glare) and the voices always stay back than the instruments and for me cause fatigue. And now I discover the fun with this little boys, I like the analogue sound too much. I looking the Cayin IHA-6, Asgard 3, Audio- GD NFB-1AMP and accepting recomendations. I've only used the xDSD as a DAC to larger amps, and I liked the result, so I don't see why a similar set-up with an Asgard 3 wouldn't be good. It seems the Chinese brands are often focussed on measuring well to look impressive, but that doesn't always translate well to sounding good.

Yesterday was arrived the Chord Mojo and I putted a smile in my face, there are a lot of diference between, the ifi idsd Nano BL and the Topping NX4, at least with AKG K701, I think it's not necessary pair the mojo with and amp, the mojo have sufficient power. watched 4 reviews on this so far, and not one review went into any detail on how this unit sounded as a stand alone preamp from the analog outs on the back! Disappointing

Hot tip: Headphone amplifiers, for the most part, sound exactly the same as pre-amps as they do as headphone amps. So, everything I said about the sound as a headphone amplifier (except how well it drives headphones) is applicable to how it sounds as a pre-amp.

I have send back two Asgard’s. Both times they made me pay shipping to them. And duty because they mislabeled by item. Anyways . They both burned out after using them to game after 3 hours. I wouldn’t trust them. If you value your time. Don’t trust them

crosstalk is really bad -82db is crappy at best.. dual mono only for me.. i'm tired that nobody care to talk about crosstalk and slew rate (30hz-300hz square wav rendering)
