There's nothing wrong with crying, especially watching that movie. It means you're human and good.

This is Steven Spielberg's best film. Nothing has ever come close.

Göth was even crueler and more insane in real life. they indeed washed it down a bit, as Spielberg did not want to show the full extend of goeths persona. There was even an event on the set where a survivor of Platzsow was on the set and recognised which character Ralph Fiennes was playing and this was so traumatic, that she collapsed crying.

Yes, basicaly every ww2 movies is heavily toned down in movie/show forms. There is no legal way to actualy depict the depravity that happened in those times and other times in history The closest movie to depict such depravities to reality (still toned down a little) is called "men behind the sun" it is a japanese movie, I watched it when I was younger and when I was still in japan, it is a movie about the unit 731, aka the place where japanese scientists and madmen "experimented" on many innocent Chinese civilians and other war prisoners.

While making this movie, Spielberg wouldn't even communicate with the actors playing the Einsatzgruppen. These were actors of the German theater playing these parts. Spielberg would give them direction but he wouldn't make small talk with them as he couldn't get past the Schutzstaffel uniforms. That is until a beautiful thing happened very early in production. A Passover Seder was held at the hotel the cast and crew were staying. Spielberg had all the Jewish actors sitting around at a table, then all the German actors walked in wearing yarmulkes and participated in the rituals of the Passover Seder and Spielberg was moved to tears.

Oh, wow, thanks for the nice little trivia. I can't imagine what it was like during production for everybody involved given its very sensitive subject.

Yes Daniel this was a great film. The problem is that when Americans get their history from dramatized movies like this guy, they seem to think that everything in the film is factual and it is NOT. He Questions whether Anne Frank for instance was one the people [Quote] "Hiding in the walls." She was in a different country entirely. The US seems to have a problem with 'actual facts' which I think will be to their utter detriment in the next 4 years.

Amon Goeth was the devil in human form the things he did even the nazi party found his actions truly barbaric so they had him committed to the sanatorium by the SS. The allied forces found him there and hung him. Ralph Fiennes who played Goeth took in between takes to comfort the Schindler Jews on set as his likeness, performance and mannerisms were so much like him it caused panic attacks in some of them. If you ever watch footage of Goeth you can see how incredible of a performance Ralph did. The Schindler Jews took care of Schindler in his old age as he was ostracised by his own country because of what he did. Schindler became a huge part of their lives after the war going to family gatherings etc and when he passed away they paid for his body to be flown to isreal to be buried in the jewish cemetery you see at the end as its truly a honour to be buried there which was such a beautiful tribute to him. It is against the law to remove the stones from his grave.

This is a rough watch, thank you for doing so. (Would have loved to see the text though. It just adds a whole new level) I have some interesting trivia but I'm dead tired so I'll get to all of that later....in the meantime.... Here's a very loud and emphatic recommendation: HACKSAW RIDGE. GO GO GO GO. It's not tragic, it will make you feel better. (That's such a weird thing to say about a war movie) Bait: when that was premiered at Venice, the director got a TEN MINUTE STANDING OVATION.

Oh, and about the white text. I really don't know why they released this movie that way. I found many Reddit threads about this; most of them were showing the movie to someone they know (wife, etc.) for the first time and they were disappointed that the white text wasn't there. In my case, as the movie progressed, I kind of figured the situation with the Jewish people. I think that was the most important bit to understand. I just didn't know how Amon was captured and that Schindler failed his marriage and had multiple failed businesses after the war. I also did not know about the tree.

@@liprekt This movie began a 25 year continuing oddessy on my part to understand the "Why?" part. I wanted to read everything, watch everything, and learn everything about that entire part of history to glean any kind of insight. I know the how and the when and the where. I've seen the piles and piles of shoes, glasses, clothing, and photos of people....every one of whom had a family...at various museums, trying to wrap my head around WHY. I've stood in front of the gas chambers and brick ovens of Dachau and I don't think I will EVER understand the why. (Dachau is a whole other story but I will tell you, it's an entire wrecking ball right in the teeth once you start to grasp the sheer scale of things.) So not to end on a depressing note: The text at the end of the film says that "today" there are over 6000 descendants of the Schindlerjuden. As of a census taken in March of 2022, the number of (registered) descendants is just over 12000

Yeah, seeing Danka's actress (little girl with glasses) alongside an older woman I didn't recognize (whom I immediately thought was either the real person or a descendant) was what prompted me to look up if this was, indeed, a true story. I wanted to point it out but as you could see, I was too busy sniffling...
