I think of Batman as a hero. A hero born of loss. He doesn't want anyone else to suffer the deep pain he went through. I really enjoyed watching this. It's clear you put a great deal of work into it.

Scarecrow was also bullied as a child and abused by his grandmother and took revenge on both of them. He had his grandmother attacked by crows and his bullies he scared so badly by wearing a Scarecrow costume and using smoke pellets and a water pistol he spray-painted black, that they wound up in a car accident. He also created his own form of martial arts known as "Violent Dancing."

Great video! Though one small note that i always see people miss with A Serious House on Serious Earth: Clayface in that comic isnt Basil Karlo, instead we have the third Clayface, Preston Payne. Payne was deformed and wound up using the blood of Matt Hagan (Clayface II) to try and cure himself, like with Karlo and Hagan it went horribly wrong, and he was essentially a walking disease, who could corrode people by touching them. I always took his disease as the reason why Doctor Destiny in that comic is so terrifying, as they seem to be buddies or Clayface seems to be his helper in some way

Realistically, most of these criminals wouldn't even go to Arkham Asylum. Even the Joker. Very few of them are actually legally insane, so they would end up at Black Gate Penitentiary.

You’ve got to remember Batman was first published in the 1930’s and Asylums were common back then. People sent to them didn’t have to be bat shit crazy, dangerous, You had people committed to drug, electric and lobotomy treatments for doing anything out of the social norm at the time or for being disabled or queer. A lot of asylums were out in the middle of nowhere or on an island because they were used as quarantine from hospitals for TB or Typhoid. So when these villains were created and evolved right up until the late 1980’s Psychiatric care wasn’t anything like it is today. Try Googling historic asylums where you live and see if there’s any near you, very few are operational now but the buildings still stand.

@@TheWobblyQueen Oh yeah, psych wards back in the day were brutal places. I understand everything you said, but I think comics need to evolve with the times. It seems like comic writers want to modernize things in certain aspects and other aspects they just ignore. I'm around 200 miles from Western State Lunatic Asylum in Staunton, Virginia and I'm around 240 miles from Waverly Hills Sanatorium in Louisville, Kentucky. Waverly Hills is one of the most notorious asylums in the country.

No, it isn't believed that the events in The Killing Joke are the origin of Joker. The book itself says that he doesn't remember for sure, and enjoys lying about it. We readers, we should be enjoying the ambiguity and opportunity for creativity

The most generally accepted origin is the Killing Joke. I think we all know that the character is better left ambiguous, but you can't blame people for creating a compelling origin, and as far as they go for the Joker that is definitely the most credible one to work with imo.

I'm sure I am preaching to the choir here, but if you have not read Serious House On Serious Earth, please do so. It's an amazing book. I read most comics online because I can enlarge them so I can actually read the words, otherwise the print is too small for me. With Serious House, I obtained the book itself as well as reading it online. The watercolor format is beautiful and it's a great story, for sure.

So here's an idea for a scene for a Batman movie where the villain is Scarecrow: Two thirds or so through the film, Batman is captured by Scarecrow and his drugged up thugs, restrained in a dingy old hospital. Scarecrow comes into frame, gloating and monologuing about fear, madness, etc. He remarks on Batman's mental and emotional fortitude and resistance to his fear gas, so he loads up a syringe of concentrated fear toxin, waving about batman's face, before plunging the syringe deep into Batmans neck... His vision starts to swim, horrific images flashing before him: the murder if his parents, the Joker's torture, and so on. When all of a sudden, after hearing Oracles voice to snap out if it, he breaks the restraints, pulls the needle out and fights off the goons. A brutal fight and chase sequence occurs, ending in Dr. Jonathon Cranes capture, where he tells Batman he isn't frightened of him, but Batman will ALWAYS fear HIM. Batman has now delivered Crane to Arkham, unmasked and restrained in an observation cell while Batman and Commissioner Gordon look on, talking about the ordeal. Crane seems oddly composed. But then Gordon says to Batman "Theres just one last thing left to do..." Armed orderlies file in on both sides of the hallway, trying to placate Batman, who is confused and angry. He doesnt belong here, what are they talking about? "Jim?! What the hell is this??" He fights the orderlies, almost escaping before being tased and sedated, wherein he is dragged into the NOW EMPTY observation chamber, and strapped in. He screams and protests, as they wheel in the ECT machine and unmask him. As he looks through the window at the doctors and the commissioner, Dr. Jonathon Crane, in his white lab coat strolls into view. "Relax, Mr. Wayne. Youre home now." The ECT paddles make contact as Batman screams, where we are sent back to the beginning, with Batman still restrained in Scarecrows lair, as he straddles Batman's lap, inches away, and whispers "...boo." and smiles... His worst nightmares had come to pass. He realizes he too, belongs right where Crane does as well...

Personally, Batman is just as bad as the inmates. This can be seen by the endless supply of Robin's, all with the exception of maybe Damien, should NOT have been running around gotham getting injured or worse. The worse is in reference to what happened to Jason, Barbara and others. They were children and Bruce should not have been adopting PAWNS to be his merry little side kicks. This is a hill I will die on. Batman was a terrible father and an overall terrible person who often failed to make gothem safer or better.
