Schmid factor and resolved shear stress for FCC slip system

In this video I demonstrate how to calculate the resolved shear stress if we know the slip system (slip plane + slip direction) and the tensile stress and its magnitude.
The calculation is done for a FCC slip system, but the same method can be used for BCC or other systems as well.

That video was very clear. Thanks. I have a question related to this same example you've solved, if the direction of the Force applied is [001] or [010] instead of [100]. We'll still have the same Schmid factor, correct?

Thanks! I don't know the answer without calculating it and I honestly don't have time now to check it. Please check my other videos on Schmid factors because I published some calculators (Excel sheets) to get the Schmid factors. You can check any scenarios with them.

You're welcome. It describes the direction of slip.

Why area is written as A/COS PHI??

Because that is the area of the slip plane.

It is just trigonometry. You take the original cross-section and divide it by cos(phi) to get the slip plane's area. You see it from the original cylinder's axis and the normal vector of the slip plane.
