Ok I am posting this here as well. And for those so opposed, I am seriously asking, how do you suggest I keep the league going? Remember I need to pay crew, pay rent, pay competitors, rent venues for live event, rent equipment, props, food. I am seriously asking, how would you suggest? Don't say "get a sponsor." That is like my mother saying "You should go out with Sandra Bullock when you get to LA." Easier said than done. What is the option? Maybe I haven't thought of it. I really want to know. EDIT: I wrote this first part after I was really upset after not understanding how people couldn't understand that we were asking for 25 cents a week from the people who watch weekly to keep this thing going. I was shocked when people who claimed to be die hard fans were going to just bail (when there is a free option still just not the one they want.) Then I sat back and I said "You know what, remember what your dad told you years ago, human beings doubt, that's what they do, in their nature. Go past it and do what you need to do." I should have prepared for the ignorant and the negative especially considering the space I work in. I LOVE this thing. I think about it every minute, every second trying to match the best matches, write the best stories, thinking "The fans are going to love this!." The bottom line is that I work for Collider Mon-Fri 9-6PM and my duties as Head of Development/Content have me focused (rightly so) on what I can do to improve Collider's content (podcast network, Collider Live etc...) but that leaves Friday from 2:30-6:00PM to shoot 4 matches, get all the scenes, exhibition matches, commentaries etc.... It simply was not enough time. So I thought of a plan that would work and would be a risk. On the COLLIDER executive side of thinking: Collider needs that time also on Friday, I own the brand and we are using studio time that we could be using on other Collider programming and one of their top executives (me) is spending studio time on a property that Collider does not own and using employees to shoot it. On the SCHMOEDOWN side of things: I need more studio time, I need to be able to develop more Schmoedown properties (Bringing back Inside Schmoedown, more commentaries, new shows, new SD podcasts, more ketches, matches.) So I said, I'll take the risk and I will rent the studio on Saturday. Think about that, taking one more day away from my family (and Thad and the rest of the amazing crew would come in to work on Saturdays) to make the best show for you all. So my positive hat went on and I said, if I put IG and teams on Patreon for 25 cents a week, the hardcore fans will understand and want to see more content, they will get it. And to be honest, I think the real hardcore fans who see what I am trying to do, did get it. I can't ask everyone to understand my vision, I can't ask everyone to put business hats on. I have to understand that there are some people who are just used to getting free content and they will always just see this as a "trivia show." And that is fine, but I don't. I will grow this show, I will do more live events and sell them all out. I will accomplish live streaming and turn Throwdown into the next big show. I will turn that audio feed into a brand new way for new fans to find the Schmoedown. The audience will grow, the show will grow, the league will flourish. I want you all to come on the journey with me but I understand now that not everyone will. If you heard the announcement and decide that Season 5 was your last season, then I say thank you. Thank you for your viewership over however long you may have been watching. Thank you for supporting these great competitors through their emotional journeys in this crazy league. Thank you for being passionate enough to care that maybe this just wasn't the direction you wanted it to go. Thank you and I hope we entertained you. To those who stay, whether it is staying a viewer and a non-patron but by watching the new episodes of Inside Schmoedown, watching the singles division on Fridays or becoming a podcast subscriber and listening to the IG and teams division. For those who decide they want to be part of any tier, live stream IG and Teams, new benefits, the Throwdown, whatever it is and why you decide to come with us, you won't be disappointed. This is the road to the next big dance. I've always dealt with the thoughts of those who think something can't be done or this might be the wrong move but you have to trust your gut. My gut tells me that we are about to do some special shit this year. I plan to find new stars to compete with the greats that we already have. I plan to give you all an opportunity to come see us, wherever you may be. This isn't just a trivia show to me, this is a new sport, this is OUR fucking sport. The movie lovers, the geeks who have never had a thing to root for. This is ours and it will be ours when we move it to the next horizon. Thank you all. www.patreon.com/schmoedown -Kristian

People need to take a step back and empathize. The man has a dream, if you don't want to be part of it, that's fine. I'd understand the backlash if he took every option away...but he didn't. You can still listen to them. His thinking has always been...if 100k people view these videos and just half of them lend a dollar A MONTH that would be insane. If even a quarter of us viewers did that. Some of you need to just chill out and let the man create lol.

I think Kristian is honestly being very polite here. I am quite surprised that people who claim to want the Schmoedown to grow are unwilling to pay a loose change amount of money a month to do this and are not supporting a decision that will help make it grow. If you can't physically afford it right now, I'm sorry about you financial situation but at the very least you could support this giant leap Kristian and the team are making and enjoy the free content until your financial situation changes. When people like television, they pay for cable. When people like boxing/ufc/wrestling, they pay for PPV or the WWE network. If people like movies/shows, they pay for streaming services or rent them. No reason why this should be different to help grow this wonderful product. If you want this brilliant show to not only continue, but to become so much bigger...please do all you can to support it. Thank you Kristian and everyone who works on my favourite piece of content. I am praying for this risk to pay off and i believe it will. ❤

As long as there is a video to watch, I'll watch it, I love the Schmoedown. And I get it, money makes the world go-round. He milks it all for himself, shows little to no remorse, and can't just get off his high-chair and accept that Mara is feeling super shit and just say his answer QUICKLY. Overall, I kind of have a bad taste in my mouth about the whole spectacular. This interview by Mara was just one of several things. I mean the matches were great - really great. But everything else ... I dunno I may be just getting tired of it. I don't like the changes for 2019, I don't like *so* much emphasis on these tacky WWE stories. I'm salty. Hope it gets back to a straightforward and simple movie trivia show done by people in the web-space we care about. If I see any more fake tackles, dog stealing, mask stealing, fake lawyer fake drama bullshit I'll probably be done. Which sucks, cause I've been here since blue fairy.

Gotta say I'm not a big fan of Mara's attitude at the end there. It reminded me of Cam Newton after he lost the Superbowl. I don't care how supremely talented you are if you can't take a hit and get back up like a champ you are not cut out for anything even remotely competitive
@agentfilm63766 жыл бұрын
Cam Newton can take multiple hits like he's been doing his whole career and has been relentless in getting back up. There's a reason why he's captain of his team. But people always have to define his career from one bad night. He had just lost Super Bowl 50. But he still went up and congratulated Peyton Manning and shook his hand. Wish Mara could've at least done that to Kalinowski.

Then I realized that was on me - as a Patron, I am responsible for this show in a real way, and I can look at my own budget and say, "Give them a raise." Now, after hearing the new announcement from Kristian, and seeing a movie producer with the belt going to NY, I'm excited to see what new possibilities will come for the MTS. And because I am thoroughly entertained by this show, I will pay for it out of my hard-earned money. Thank you to all of the crew & cast for everything you do on & off camera - and to my fellow fans for supporting this and making it happen, creating a community where people can be uplifted from a rough day, watch during cancer treatments, and find a group of people to belong to. I have to admit, I LOVED Spectacular this year, however I will admit the changes being made for next Season have me feeling a little somber. While I completely understand the costs of production, I feel separating Singles from the Teams/Innergeekdom will only harm the Schmoedown in the long run. The Schmoedown is a visual show one need to only look at the entrances from the competitors to see that. While I’m thankful for being able to listen to these matches, they hold no candle to watching them. This decision will separate the audience and will hinder the Schmoedowns growth overall as some just aren’t podcast people. Again, I’m not trying to troll or be ungrateful as I’m sure these decisions weren’t made lightly, but I humbly beg everyone involved with the Schmoedown to reconsider these decisions. I’m not sure if I’m even going to be able to keep up with these divisions now unless I become a patron which sadly not everyone can do which is a unfortunate reality. Again, I hope we can reconsider though I feel it may be too late.
@DMS820126 жыл бұрын

@InfinitySor6256 жыл бұрын
Mr.302Plays Woah, just take it easy man. Yes, unfortunately some can’t. It’s an unfortunate reality, but it exists. We do not know everyone’s financial situation, what may be easy for one may be difficult for another. Again, I said I understand where the decision comes from and I understand the cost of a show with as high of a production value as the Schmoedown, I just feel this may have some unintended consequences that’s all.
@InfinitySor6256 жыл бұрын
Collider Videos Yes I understand that funding is crucial, I said as much in the OP. I not gonna even attempt to comprehend the stresses of putting a show like this on, and of course having a league is better than not having one. I’m sure if there was a better decision than that would be what we get, I’m just uncertain how the Team and Innergeekdom leagues will thrive being only audio only to the general public and how that may hinder the growth of the league in the future. I’m sorry if it came across any other way
@DMS820126 жыл бұрын
James F your right when saying we don’t know everyone’s financial situation but again I say It’s a one time payment of one dollar every month. I highly doubt half the the Schmoedown audience are on the verge of becoming homeless and can’t afford a dollar a month. If we lose the Schmoedown because “fans” can’t “afford” a dollar a month than me and countless others will be very sad that this amazing product will never be seen again
