I've never seen a starter opened up before. Thank you!

I agree with Mathew below. The armature you pulled out isn't a magnet. It's just lamination of steel riveted together. He just misspoke. Surely he knows that wasn't a magnet.

Hello Schneider-Electric. I have the same Magnetic Starter. I want to use it on a 3 phase motor for a dust collector on low voltage setting of 208v-230v. So far I have 240v coming from a double pole 30A breaker, I have a phase converter creating it into 3 phase 240V, then I have it plugged in to this very same Magnetic Starter NEMA Size 1 Type SC03 8536 with a 480V/440V Coil No. 31041-400-60. The on button seems like it wont stick. To power it on I have to press it with a screw driver and it runs smoothly. But once I let it go, it shuts off. It is because my power is only 240v and my coil is for 480v? Do I need to change the coil to 208V 31041-400-48? After changing it do I have to remove the common control? What is the difference between common and separate control? Thanks!!!!!

hmm. you called the iron core a magnet? no magnetism present till the coil is energized. the iron core is the circuit to flow the magnetism.
