We have that same Breville oven and you really need to insulate the top! It gets SO hot. There’s a good reason why they sell the bamboo cutting board to put on top.
@SchoandJo

Oh that's interesting! We plan on having our induction cooktop a few inches above with room for airflow. That's what the big area is in the back, to allow the air to escape. Do you think it should have something else there?
@debbieschmidt9316
@debbieschmidt9316 24 күн бұрын
I wish I could tell you for sure. I believe the top is suggested as a warming area, but I have that cutting board and store the pans for it on top and those pans get hot. I was sort of worried about the wood being above it, but I don’t think I’d keep the induction cooktop there if the oven is on. Just for storage only when you’re not baking anything. Not sure about the space in back being enough to dissipate the heat unless you’re venting to the outside of the box it’s in. I wish there was someone who could give you absolute definitive answers.

@@SchoandJoI watched the countertop episode. We really enjoy watching your creation. I wonder if you can get some type of fireproof material to put underneath the induction stove just as a precaution. Not sure if I noticed what the bottom of that was, but if it’s wiring I’d might be concerned.

Love watching you configure and install all the accessories, but did you ever think about buying a used one that is I great shape?
@SchoandJo
@SchoandJo 24 күн бұрын
We didn't really ever consider buying a used one, but I think after building out this one, in retrospect, we should have, haha!

Have you considered going to pull out drawer refrigerators instead of one big one they’re a little smaller, but if you stack two or three on top of each other, you may have more room than you think and that way, you don’t have to open one big door every time you just want a specific item. Just a thought.
@SchoandJo
@SchoandJo 24 күн бұрын
We did consider pull outs, but with a pull out you have to dig a bit more for groceries, which wasn't too ideal. I didn't think of stacking them, but that would be great to maximize storage, although you'd have multiple compressors so they might take more power? We're hoping this one balances out ease of use and storage space... time will tell if it works!

Are you going to put in a vent cover for the hole you cut on the back of the kitchen cabinet?
@SchoandJo
@SchoandJo 26 күн бұрын
Yes! We're planning a ratan like cover, so it'll look nice from the outside :)

How will you get fridge out when it stops working, without taking your cabinet all back apart.
@SchoandJo
@SchoandJo 24 күн бұрын
That's a good question... and the answer is not easily! We can pull the fridge directly out and access all the components on the side, so if its fixable we could most likely fix it. If it requires a replacement then we would have to unscrew the forward cabinet from the floor and future counter top. It'd be a real pain but there are always trade offs in a tiny home. Our fridge on the boat ran great for almost 3 years and definitely wasn't new, so we arent very concerned about it. At the end of the day, if we have to unscrew some cabinets and take a week or less to take care of it, its worth having a bigger fridge for those years!

Have you estimated the weight with all the plywood cabinets?
@SchoandJo
@SchoandJo 26 күн бұрын
We did an initial estimation, and we save some weight by not building 3/4 and using 1/4 where possible. We will get the van weighed before leaving on the road!

One thing ive never liked about most van builds, is feeling like you live in a hallway.. when building out my van, i left the entire driver side from the bed to the driver seat open, i have room to move around, get dressed, whatever, feels more spacious having a 144 which is already a small space
@SchoandJo

Your van is looking very tight. You may not like the standing area.
@SchoandJo
@SchoandJo 24 күн бұрын
It is tight! But not too tight, at least yet. There's still full height and a path to the back of the van. We can also walk around each other although that is tight... all tradeoffs in a tiny home you can move anywhere!
