L K Advani’s involvement in Rath Yatra was naked, political opportunism, he didn’t have a communal bone in his body, his mother worshipped at a dargah in Sindh before Partition. Atal Behari Vajpayee loved Parliament and the diversity of India’s political space. He wanted Advani to sack Modi, but lost in that battle. They were BJP & India’s ‘jugalbandi,’ says Vinay Sitapati in his book on the BJP’s most interesting duo in decades. Watch this interview with ThePrint’s National Affairs editor Jyoti Malhotra. #ThePrintUninterrupted

For crying out loud, this guy is totally full of crap. 😅😅 Acording to him the biggest mistake Advani made was not firing Modi. I would say that was the biggest success given that Modi has one with the largest majorities the BJP has ever seen since Nehru

Its fine to have your viewpoints and as a regular listener to the show, I want to hear diverse viewpoints, however biased they are. But how often will the guest be interrupted in a show claiming in its title to be the exact opposite? I'll just point out the times at which the guest was interrupted in this show. Then I will show the times when the guest was done speaking and a followup question was asked. See for yourself Times at which the guest was in the middle of saying something and was interrupted (22) 4:36, 6:00, 7:07, 8:37, 9:50, 10:20, 11:17, 12:26, 14:36, 18:32, 19:30, 19:56, 24:55, 26:28, 26:36, 28:51, 31:02, 34:41, 34:52, 35:50, 39:32, 39:58 Time when the guest was actually done speaking and a followup question was asked (7) - 14:03, 15:30, 22:44, 33:18, 37:15, 38:46, 41:23 I hope ThePrint takes this advice as constructive criticism. Would a member of their staff even like to have a 40 minute conversation with me where I interrupt them 22 times during the chat? Mathematically it shows that the host has an attention span less than 2 minutes. The same criticism has been levied in several other conversations as well. I hope the host changes the way of conducting such conversations over a period of time. The guests, whatever their views, are well-read and interesting in their opinions in most cases. The show should add to that and let the conversation flow. There are so many podcasts with millions of followers that they can refer to, if they wish to improve upon this rather easy to address flaw (all you have to do is stay quiet).

I too noticed that Mr. Sitapati totally forgot non-muslims left in East or West Pakistan or the trouble between East and West Pakistan which finally was real. I would love to know a scholar arise but scholastic rigour cannot be compromised. My personal concern is ONLY out of compassion for even the last soul, the last blade of grass ... scholars find that goal impossible ... I unfortunately belong to the tribe where love is worshipped ... "majrooh likh rahey thay woh ahklay wafaa ka naam (Majrooh - name of the poet - when the call came that whoever is faithful to the idea of love please identity yourself ) hum bhi khadey huay hain gunaah gaar ki tarah ( I too stood up for following this most beautiful ideal as if I had committed a crime - because times are such that 'love' is not the practical thing anymore ... guess what 'love' never was the practical thing to do ... I personally learn to be practical only as much as Galileo was - that guy never got killed, contrary to the popular belief for loving the facts as they are ... but I know at least 3 guys who didn't believe me till they Googled it ... 😀 that to me is genius of Galileo that people think he was killed for the helio-centric views he OBSERVED ... mind you Galileo didn't think it up he called spade a spade and his genius was in passing on the message somehow ... he was an "ahley wafa" - I won't translate ahley wafa ... I don't paid to write here )". I know I digressed ... it was by design and not me wool gathering: think who is the guy on my thumbnail.

Japanese massacred chinese and chinese picked up from where their oppressors left and continue to be the oppressors themselves now So, no leader, accused of such war crimes has ever done it with an ideology which didnt have humanity at its core. How else could masses be convinced of the legality of the actions otherwise ? Humanitarain ideologies in the hands of vengeful cruel leaders dont fare so well. You wont be able to point one instance where the prophet ordered or did himself, killings of innocents even if they oppressed him in the past. The conquest of mecca is proof of it. People who torutured him, excommunicated him, killed his people, starved them, brought platoons after platoons to annihilate them in medina, were not harmed one bit. I think the BJP tries to use the "good cop, bad cop" method in politics. In every era, they have a moderate politician (good cop), and a radical politician to complement him. In the 80s, 90s and early 2000s, it was Vajpayee (moderate/good cop) and Advani (radical/bad cop). If you try and look at how Modi and Shah are behaving nowadays, you'll see a similarity. Since becoming PM, Modi has stopped speaking very controversial stuff and mostly speaks generic PM stuff. Shah on the other hand, is much more fiery and has often spoken controversial stuff. Nowadays, Modi is trying to play the moderate/good cop, while Shah is trying to play the radical/bad cop.

Yes I too noticed she got happy when the mention of Atal ji's personal life started. To be fair to her I think she was happy that a woman who openly celebrated her sexuality got mentioned. I personally am in favour of women eventually to get their due respect ... I was a teenager when I heard a relative boast that her brother had many girlfriends and I purely out of the teenage habit of trying to irritate adults asked that relative "would you have boasted like this had your sister had many boyfriends". I grew up to be ok in the sense that I respect women and men and people who are not comfortable identifying with either sex. So yes me happy about women getting respect.

Moderating the conversation and inturrupting constantly are 2 different things . The hosts political leanings should not be obvious .

As usual, all about Nehru, Nehruvian consensus, same old drill, camouflaging behind Vajpayee. The interview is less about Vajpayee, more about Congress Nehru etc. The author did not go even as far as listening to the Vajpayee's speeches on Hedgewar, Guruji, Savarkar, Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, all so readily available on KZbin.

To answer your last question : The Modi of a few years back may not have served under Amit Shah, but what we see today of Modi is that he is already making way for Shah, and when the time is right, he will withdraw. Many people will not agree with what I say now, but pls pin this comment somewhere, and revisit it after the next general election. If not immediately but definitely halfway through the NDA’s 3 rd term( if they win) Modi will relinquish power.

non muslims, non christians in this land of pre-independent bharat ( and post independence ), was & is, divided house, hatred among with in it, but common fear of muslims. muslims, who were and are same stock, same land, left the lands identity ,took inspiration from arabic, iranian, turkik winners. so in order to unite non muslims of india, not the religion but india as mother of all, accommodating all thinking with in it from time immemorial , with out imposition, leaving caste bonds, untouchability - being addressed. hindu intellectuals instead of addressing the problems in the society, choose secularism as a religion & atheist nehru ( can you tell me in any other democracy this happened?).

Looks like he knows the facts but he is unable to fully analyze it, calling BJP,s work culture a "Hindu teamwork" is something like some foreigner trying to understand, in fact whatever the "Jugalbandi" was there because they brought up by same RSS so whatever differences they may have ultimately it was RSS's Right wing ideology who identified them.
