watching clips of these and Lampard, it only makes me wish that we saw Gerrard play more of this free role as well. He was given this sort of freedom when he had Mascherano and Alonso behind him but it didn't last for long. Even Scholes himself said that he wouldn't be able to do what Gerrard did for Liverpool. What a shame

gerrard was a box to box player, he was strong defensively and offensively. he wasnt a pure attacker.
