I don’t see what’s so surprising about dumbass people who create a school to really study things that aren’t real. But yeah WoW does base a lot of things in the game on real life stuff from memes to old legends. Everybody does that, everything is usually based off of something else.

That reference to the real Scholomance is actually something Blizzard could give a nod to if they would revamp the dungeon with dragons instead of undead in mind. 10:00
@Xick5 жыл бұрын
So this has probably been retconned - I think these days they're saying that the Orcs used dragons to burn the forests of Quel'Thalas in the Tides of Darkness - but IN MY DAY it was Death and Decay they used: Caer Darrow is where Gul'dan did all of his peak Gul'danning. Doomhammer had kept Gul'dan alive to task him with producing new magical servants who could contest the arcane might of Dalaran and Silvermoon, and this he did by capturing Caer Darrow and perverting the druidic runestone there to create the Ogre Magi. Ogre Magi are OP in that game, but Gul'dan did one better and also created the Death Knights (the OG skeleman kind) to have them unleash an army of the undead against Quel'Thalas. Winter would turn to Spring before the Stormreavers would lose control of the lake, the Alliance finally rooting out the secret Orc bases and Alterac collaborators supplying them, and founding the Paladin order to fight their black magic. What I'm saying is that there was a period of months back in the day where the future site of Scholomance was a nightmarish Orcish doom fortress, surrounded by earthworks bristling with cannon and with magic eyes swarming above, where sorcerous whirlwinds attacked ships and undead haunted the snows. So I've always thought it a small missed opportunity that no one ever has a flashback or a letter from the end of the Second War being like Archmage Antonidas: The Orcs have badly despoiled these lands. It will take our order many years of study and toil to find a cure for this corruption. Archmage Kel'Thuzad: Leave it to me. 100% on it.
@noctusowl4 жыл бұрын
They had to retcon that. How would they explain Sylvannas warbringer where she runs carefree through a field of wheat to trip and fall on Frostmourne. In war3 Arthas has trouble to get through because the forest is so dense and protected with magic.

Platinum WoW: "Scholomance, darkest lore in WoW?" The burning legion, literal destroyers and slavers of thousands of worlds: "Are we a joke to you?"
@crysosisback71155 жыл бұрын
Except the dread and horror in the questline of the servants of the barov family is way worse than anything related to the burning legion tho ! We know they're the fucking worst, but they aren't THAT horrible, they kill and destroy shit, mostly, rarely they torture people to THAT point, without any reason worth it behind it ^^
@cesargarcia82995 жыл бұрын
@@crysosisback7115 Yeah, they aren't THAT horrible, they are way worse. The aldrachi had it easy since Sargeras just chopped their planet in half, leaving them all to die in a painful but somewhat quick way, but the burning legion tortured millions of people in thousands upon thousands of worlds. Often times for information and even more so for their own twisted fun. They butchered innumerable amounts of innocents. They hunted down whoever made it out of their initial strikes. They ate people alive. They tore millions of souls away from their bodies and used them as fuel for their machines and spells whenever they weren't doing so for the lols, and often times they took their sweet time killing their victims whenever they weren't on full butchery mode. A group of humie sadists doesn't compare to the horrors that a literal army of infinite demons brought upon the cosmos for who knows how many eons. What this family went through is horrible, yes, but imagine that same thing (if not increased tenfold) happening to everyone else on the rest of the universe and you'll have a reference of what they went through before the end. The fear, the hopelessness, the desperation, and if you were lucky your soul would make it out into Shadowlands, but many ceased to exist entirely.

Not to mention the Burning Legion are the ones who created the Scourge as a vanguard to soften Azeroth up for demonic invasion.
@SinerAthin4 жыл бұрын
I think the answer to this has to do with presentation. The horror of Scholomance is much more down-to-earth and intimate compared to the atrocities of the legion. Compare the fates of the servants of Barov who were tortured and mutilated in gruesome detail compared to the victims of the legion who's souls were sent to eternal torture. The latter fate might be objectively worse, but it's so abstract, way over the top and hard to connect with compared to the more 'mundane' horror of Scholomance.

Scholomance is one of the few dungeons that I love both the classic and remade versions of. There’s something so eerie and unsettling about the original version that the new version lacks, however the new version has such a fun Disney Haunted Mansion vibe to it that it’s still cute and charming. MoP Scholomance also has some of my favorite voice acting in the game in the form of Darkmaster Gandling, a standout line of his for me is “Did you forget, girl?
