17:00 My nan (her daughter was close with the victim) said that Edwin worked at ASDA at the time. 20:20 Nan also said that they did know eachother prior to the attack. All the kids in the area thought that he was weird, but Naomi fancied him (and he knew that) and would often go to ASDA just to see him. From what nan said, they seemed to get on well prior to this, and we think that he took advantage of her trust that night. Obviously this is just speculation based on what my family and their friends knew about him, but it might help with giving an idea of what might have happened that night.

Back in the mid 90s my parents would let me walk to town all the time. They would both be at work and I was pretty much allowed to go wherever I wanted just as long as I called before I left and when I came home. My mother and father were separated but we had very little supervision. We went home for supper and had to be home a certain time for bed but otherwise my mother had no idea where we were or what we were doing. My dad was depressed and slept most of the day so we had even less rules or supervision while with him. I always say that the fact that my brother and I even made it to adulthood is a miracle. Even crossing kid napping out of it, we were reckless and often did dangerous things. Now a days my parents would be considered abusive. Can’t say I can disagree with that term either.

Growing up like that, from very young like 3-4 years old, and now having a child of my own- I just can’t even fathom letting her play anywhere but inside or supervised in our backyard???? It makes me anxious when she visits friends and family that we know extremely well. I don’t know how parents did it. I just always want to know what she’s up to, that she’s okay and having fun. It’s crazy to think how vulnerable I was, my parents often didn’t meet or talk to my friends’ parents. In summer I would often spend a week at one friends house or more… LIKE HOW?

I know this case was from 1995, but when is the world going to start protecting their girls and treating these incidents with the seriousness they deserve? An open prison for someone who brutally murdered, sexually assaulted, and mutilated a child, with a previous attack and attempted rape....really? Open prison is the best we can do? We have to do better. I think he finally died (as I can't find him listed anymore) but a few years ago I checked the sex offender registry in my town and just a few blocks from me was a "high risk" sex offender. I looked at his rap sheet and he had two separate charges, from two separate dates/events, where he ABDUCTED A CHILD from the sidewalk, drove away with them, sexually assaulted them, and then abandoned them on the side of the road. TWICE HE DID THIS!!! He had a few other charges like exposing himself in public as well. But they just let him out to live the rest of his life...Where's the justice? The town is quite small and he was no more than 5 streets away from an elementary school. If you have to label someone as "high risk" they do not deserve to be let out. I don't care if they take their last breath behind prison bars. Sexual predators do not belong in our society any more than murderers do. Just disgusting.

Sex offenders!!!!! ARE LIVING NEAR ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I DID NOT EXPECT THAT HIGH OF A NUMBER!!!!!!!!!!! Ranging from 0.3 miles away from me and that was just the first section-there is 61 sections left!!!!! If I had the money I would’ve done it but at the moment I don’t. I live in an apartment and for the closest sex offender to be 0.3 miles away from me is scary…what if they somehow found a way to work their way into living into my apartment building because it used to be so secure and nowadays it seems anyone can get into my apartments..so that’s scary to think about

Any case involving a child being raped and murdered is obviously horrifying and heartbreaking but there's something especially more heartbreaking when the victim is the youngest child. I can't imagine what not only the parents but also Naomi's older brothers went through. I really hope her mother doesn't blame herself for sending her to the post. I mean on one hand, maybe she should've gone with her or someone go with her since it was late evening but all in all, it wasn't her fault since she couldn't have known. It really angers me when the murderers say "no comment" as if that's going to help their case. They just do it to waste people's time and rub salt on the wound of the victim's family. You have to be seriously deranged and fucked up to not only rape and murder someone but also refuse to give the victim's family any kind of closure. And now to make it worse, he's now basically free. Seriously, who can we trust if not the justice system?

Also, if you have your dna all over her, why murder her. (I don't mean if you leave no dna go ahead and murder, that's not my intention at all). You are scared she will rat you out? Or was it just for kicks because you needed to feel what it was like to kill someone? That's the only thing that would make murdering her "logical". (For lack of a better word!) Murdering her to silence her while you left your dna everywhere means she is still screaming loudly and pointing towards you. He could have let her go, which was horrible anyway either way too but if you know you left your DNA all over, then wouldn't you know they will find you soon enough if you've done shit before and you become a suspect? He may as well have let her live if it was for silencing. But I'm afraid it was about more than that with the mutilations on her too, he was just slice-happy and probably simply out to kill someone no matter who and silencing them was not even a thing he thought about, just a big rush of dopamine for him that he finally did it. And him being kind of out now, I'm afraid we are waiting for a new murder :(

It's especially frustrating when they continue to deny their crime. Like, it's a special kind of evil and cowardice to deny a murdered kid's parents true closure. I can't imagine how her parents feel, knowing he's in an "open prison" now. Their baby is dead and the guy who did it--and who had tried to commit a similar crime before--gets to basically be a free man after 20 years. There are people serving longer or similar sentences for drug possession without intent to sell.

I live and work in Nuneaton. I've lived here my entire life and I've never heard of this case before! The idea of him being let out is absolutely terrifying, I work in a school and the fact that he could do this again to another school child is just chilling to think about. Him denying it shows that he has no remorse what so ever for this girl and her family. He should be in prison for the rest of his life!

as someone whose always lived there - walking through or near the park is haunting. my nana was her mothers friend & one day i didn’t come home on time in the summer it was still light but nan was on her way to the park she picked me up the road just before the field & told me off (I was 16) she then had to tell me why she was so mad & this was the reason. she didn’t get into gory details just let me know someone lost thier life to a rape by a boy she thought was a friend.

Naomi was my childhood friend. She was the year above me at school. There would be a little group of us that would meet up most days after school and at weekends in that very park. Naomi and I would often try on each others shoes. The evening before she died, she had asked if she could borrow a pair of my black ankle boots. These were the boots she was wearing on that very fateful night. She was a beautiful soul inside and out. Sleep well beautiful ❤️

Had a friends mom thank my mom every night cause all of the kids would just go home too with no fight or complaining.

I love your channel and how informative you are! I am a psychology major and I have taken forensic psychology and when they tested the validity of bite-mark analysis it turns out it’s the least reliable analysis and is only accurate about 2% of the time because, the skin stretches and can make someone’s bite look very different from their actual bite mark. It’s odd but many have been wrongfully convicted because of unreliable bite-mark analysis): just thought I’d share!

I was attacked at 19, a man jumped me from behind. I was just leaving home. It was 5.35pm. I was lucky because I was a tomboy and was streetwise. I kicked him in the face and fought like a lioness. He ran away into the dark November evening. Unfortunately 2 days later he attacked a 11yr old girl. They caught him, let's just say that he didn't have a good time in prison!

I used to watch true crime (the tasteful ones that describes the victims life more than the murderers) due to my own experience with potentially fatal encounters, and when I made my negative comment, it didn’t occur to me that you could be creating these for the same reason.
