In this track school means "Asram". And the guru is Gausul Azam Maizbhandari. They are talking about spiritual education.

This is one of my favourite songs from IPDC Amader Gaan. Hammad Bhai, your pronunciation is SPOT ON. You asked about that horn-like instrument. So it is actually a hollowed-out buffalo horn. This horn-like instrument was used to announce anything important during the Rajput Raja era and the Mughal period. The start of battle attacks was also done after the use of this instrument. Also, in this song, School is referred to as a place or ashram for spirituality. Hence, they said that anyone can be a part of that school, no registration or admission is necessary. As far as I know, this song was written by Ramesh Chandra Shil. He admired Gausul Azam Maizbhandari (who was a spiritual leader in the Chittagong region) and therefore, this song is referred to as "coming under the umbrella of Maizbhandari's spiritualism". Maizbhandari was especially known for his Sufi philosophy and religious tolerance. Also, if you remember the Coke Studio Bangla track "Prarthona", the male singer's part was also from a famous song by Ramesh Chandra Shil (well, in that song, people were asking where god is and the narrator was explaining that god is everywhere and with patience, we can get in touch with god). And yes, the reason why Ramesh Chandra Shil used the term "School" is that a lot of people during the early British period did not have access to school or any sort of formal education and hence social & religious tolerance was something rare during that time. So, a school, in general, was referred to as মানুষ গড়ার কারখানা or a place where people learn to be human. And hence, Ramesh Chandra Shil invited people to come under the guidance of Maizbhandari and learn the actual sense of becoming a human. Also, you asked about the dress; well the members of the Joler Gaan Band wear dresses like that which is inspired by Bengali Sufism. Well, I don't actually remember the name of the fabric/cloth but it's actually an unstitched cotton cloth (which Mahatma Gandhi used to wear as a symbol of the Swadeshi Movement). Although their dresses are stitched but possibly it was inspired by that. One last thing, you guys made my day. Getting up in the morning, stuck in a jam and listening to your review on my favourite song; I can not be happier ❤❤❤❤ Thank you so much for doing it. NOTE: Tomorrow Coke Studio Bangla is dropping their last song of the season. The next 6 months would be tough while Season 2 kicks in.

Both the vocalists of Joler Gaan have a strong theatre background. So they add a lot of drama to their performances. Their live shows are way more fun than listening to their songs on just audio. Quite an experience! 😁 This is a pretty common song covered by many. But no one did it like them.

This song is about gausul azam maizbhandari who was a spiritual leader from chittagong. They were singing about how they taught without pen or ink and the teacher teaching without any salary.....stuff like that. They were actually singing about a school which was not a conventional school but a spiritual school.

Good morning, guys. I hope you both are doing great, and you had a speedy recovery, Haris. I absolutely adore you reviews and takes on these songs.Because, I always get introduced to ideas, that I haven't think of.So, thank you so much for doing this. Coming to Joler Gaan. This band is my absolute favourite. Take any of their work, it is a gem. They just paint pictures of things they are talking about.I have a request here. One of their hidden gems, is " Dhakanama".it was released during pandemic to celebrate anniversary of Dhaka city. I have a reason to request this particular track. I have seen almost all of your reaction and know that you have cover a few songs on Dhaka city before ( eso amar sohore, lullabi and some more) and most of them have somewhat darker tones. It mostly depict our frustration with the city, but their is a other side of the coin. Dhakanama is all about the love we have for the city, specially puran( old) dhaka. Throughout the song, they showcase different scenarios, one can find in old dhaka. And you should check it.Added bonus is, the song is a qawali,so it's a lot of fun, much like parties in puran dhaka, itself. Please do watch it, you won't regret. kzbin.info/www/bejne/nnameaGlZZd9m7M

This is not a normal school being opened. Its about the Dargah or Asram of a medeaval Sage or Peer named Gausal Azam Maizvandari. The students are ppl (Hindu -Muslim alike) who would just go there and be the follower of Maizvandari Sufi School. In Bengal its these Sufi Peers who laid the foundation of a tollarent brand of Islam (which the thodox Islam may not agree with) since 13th century onwards. The Black clad person is a Sufi sage and the younger one is a Vakt or Mureed. Thanks.

This is a spiritual/religious song. There is a place called Maizbhandar and there situated the Majar or dargah of Gulamur Rahman, a Bengali Sufi preacher, who succeeded his uncle Syed Ahmad Ullah as the head of the Maizbhandari Sufi Order, the first such Sufi order in Bangladesh. Gawṯ al-aʿẓam or Gausul Azam was his title.

It's taking about spiritual education. As like from Makka and Modina Islam spread out by the sufis. In that way, One Sufi or guru come to the locality. (Gousul Azam Maisvandari) They are asking about let's join in there. In here they mension it as School. It's not that regular school.
