When I was in high school (around 2013), we had a gunman roaming around in another high school on the same block as us. (They were public, we were charter.) And we spent hours among hours in the dark in our classrooms. The gunman never fired his rifle during the lockdown & was later arrested. My city also recently had a shooting at another high school aswell. Nobody died but 2 kids did get critically shot.

I've been in a few lockdowns and one school evacuation. The lockdowns were in elementary school and the evacuation was in middle school. Both were very traumatic. Anyway. The first few lockdowns weren't too serious and were just as an extra safety precaution to make sure nobody was harmed. The last one was a legitimate intruder. I was at recess sitting around and collecting grass and dirt because I had nothing better to do in 6th grade and the whistles were blown for all of us to come inside from recess. We were told that there was someone trying to get through the fence, and by the time we got inside, the intruder had gotten to the front entrance. Soon we were all told to go to our classrooms and go into lockdown because the intruder had gotten into the building. He had threatened the office ladies with a knife. Eventually he started wandering through the school before cops found and arrested him. We could hear him screaming near the kindergarten classrooms and making his way toward the third grade hall. I can't imagine what those poor little kids were thinking and what they went through. The middle school evacuation was due to a, rumor has it, it was never confirmed or denied, small explosive nearly bursting inside of the school. The fire alarm was pulled and students were told to evacuate quickly and calmly. I had recently gone through a house fire so that instantly had me panicking since the fire alarms freaked me out. Anyway. Nobody was harmed and everything was fine in the end with both incidents, but it was still terrifying either way.

They pulled us all to the parking lot where we waited for 30 min while a weird (for us) number of cops showed up. Then they brought us onto the field then evacuated us on the buses to the other charter school in the district.

The only "lockdown" I've ever encountered at school was when a security guard for the school and boarding house (as I was living in at the time) had broken into the girls' boarding house at 4 am. Funny thing is that me, and any girl who heard the alarm, only heard the, "the emergency event has passed, please resume normal activity" announcement that's made after lockdowns. Many didn't even hear the alarms that went off 3 times. Which is terrifying to think about some nut-job breaking in and hurting a few girls before anyone would realize what's happened. I remember waiting for any signs of struggle (gunshots or screaming) before I was booking it down the fire-escape and leaving all of them behind. Fortunately, nothing happened and it was just a mistake on the security guard's part since he was new.

I was in the library, which was pretty much a death trap. And of course the principal didn’t tell us anything until 20 min into the lockdown so it was pretty scary. I've been through too many lockdowns to remember, but one from pre k stuck with me. So in prek we ate lunch in the classroom and as we were throwing our trays away the intercom comes on and tells us theres a lockdown. So we go into the bathroom and hide with the lights off. I remeber in freshman year, right on Halloween, there was a bank robbery that was at a bank no less than a 5 minute walk from where we were. The guy threatened a bomb, due to safety reasons, the cops had to comply with him in all and he started to walk towards the school (I think his get away was in the same direction.) And we had to shelter in place, I was in drama and we were watching a play, Newsies, so we watched it, but funny thing is, almost a year to the exact DAY, Nov. 1 there was a bomb threat at a gas station, which was quite literally 200 ft from the bank, shelter in place, watching shrek on teachers Netflix ECT. TURNS OUT, it was a miaunderstanding, the guy was just exicted over his new suit case and wanted to make small talk with the cashier.

In 1st grade i went into lockdown all those years ago, the only time it happened actually, but, it happened because there was a bank next to our school, and during a class, the bank only a few hundred feet away from us was robbed. The robber ran right by us into the law's hands.

Oh yeah, and later that day my parents and i were walking into our hotel, and right outside our door was this guy talking to this woman, the guy kinda looked like some kind of aggressive hillbilly, so we already were scared to walk by him, (remember he is right outside our door), so we get closer and we see he has a shotgun, and not a moment later he looks at the woman and the gun is pointed right at my face when he lowers it, and we just don't move, in case we scare him and he blows my head off, so we start walking away and the gun goes off, just missing my foot, at the floor. He was later arrested and i might have nearly lost my life there.
