JJ's parents give hope to all parents that speaking up now and making a difference for the future of your child is in your hands. This is a strong message to all parents to form a chain of support and stand strong, never give up! No one has the right to control or dictate the life and future of your child by intentionally manipulating the records, silencing voices and denying the child the education and tools they need to grow and thrive!

Unreal. We’ve always recorded IEP meetings, just let the IEP team know. I hate school districts. They’re not about special needs kids, they’re about keeping their costs down. We had to sue our district to get our son into special placement, we spent 12k on an attorney.

This is upsetting. I had an IDP as a kid and thankfully my parents fought for me and nothing like this happened. As an adult I faced harassment at work from a manager and when I reported what they said in meetings HR sided with them, when the manager said "I don't remember saying that" HR and the "outside investigator" simply said there was no evidence to support my claim that I felt harassed. It's sick.

The same EXACT thing happened to a family in Virginia. Happy to provide pro bono expert witness tesitmony and evidence to support the systemic nature of this exact issue.

New York is a one party consent state. Telling them you were going to record the meeting was unnecessary. It would have been interesting to see them omit (lie) about the meeting content with a recording of what was actually said verses what they report as being said.
