even though the purpose of prison is retribution, incapacitation, deterrence and rehabilitation, most people don't care about the rehabilitation part at all. From providing efficient mental health services to prisons, or civilians being hesitant (understandable) to welcome them back into society. its pretty sad all around. especially since many times, we can't tell if these prisoners who served a long time have genuinely changed for the better and won't pose a threat to themselves or others.

I don't believe in rehabilitation for people that commit murder. When you murder it becomes easier and easier to kill again. To trust that a murderer won't kill again is selfish because what if he does kill again now you have another death that could have been avoided because rehabilitation failed.

I think he needs more medical and psychological care in a secure facility than to spend another 25 years in prison. He's definitely not ready to be with the public, or be a benefit to society, but that doesn't mean he doesn't deserve to get better.
@jennifergraceh2 жыл бұрын
I agree completely. He should be released from prison into a psychiatric hospital where he can receive treatment for his ongoing mental health issues. I guarantee he hasn’t received adequate, if any, psychiatric treatment since he went to prison. If he is still hearing command voices regularly, he is likely suffering from some sort of psychotic disorder and needs to be in a hospital setting where he can receive proper care. I’m not at all saying he should be released into the public-he shouldn’t. But, he should be sent to a long term, institution.

I have a dear dear friend who’s 35 and I’m 54, and he’s schizophrenic and bipolar and I’ve seen him get violent and turn into something that I never ever want to see again. He became like the Incredible Hulk and was hearing voices and I was petrified. I’m a big woman at 5’10 250 and he is 6’4 320 and he could have snapped my neck so easily. But as long as he takes his meds he’s the best person and I call him my adopted son. **UPDATE** On September 26, 2022, the parole board unanimously denied Carneal's bid for parole and ordered him to serve out the remainder of his life sentence. The "serve out" ruling, under Kentucky law, means the inmate in question cannot be considered for any future parole hearings. This means Carneal's life with parole sentence is now effectively a life without parole (or "whole life") sentence.

@@td.adigee not an excuse. What he describing was not an episode, at best he could have been suffering from perpetrator PTSD, because he remembers what he did, he knew it was wrong, and it's his brain attempting to cope with his trauma. Hence his convenient "blackouts" during the shooting. Point is, he's a liability.
