I just found your channel yesterday and have been watching the videos. Thank you so much for these super helpful videos. I was just hired by the School district and start my training next week. I feel more confident knowing this stuff before hand. The one thing I have been worried about is missing a stop or getting lost as I have to be a sub for awhile.
@SchoolBusSass

Subbing can be challenging. Just remember, you’re never alone. Your bus is equipped with gps, so admin can help you anytime and get you back on track. Don’t worry about time schedules when you’re subbing. Safety is number one. The children will get home. Welcome to the wonderful world of school bus driving! My favorite and most rewarding/fun job I have ever had. Enjoy the journey.

So on dual lane right turn lanes, the school bus should always make the right turn from the curb lane? With drivers coming around taking a right turn on the buses left side it would be easy to tail swing a car with the bus. Right or wrong?

Although this is professional school bus driving; this video looks like it was made on a Sunday morning in light traffic. Try doing that in L.A traffic! That driving course would be easy for Swift truckers 😆

I need help with right hand turns lol I’m in training and they are scary bc I dnt want to hit the curve lol one trainer made me super nervous and I hit a curve cause her approach was terrible lol I had it but I think she ddnt bring her glasses that day or something. Do you have anymore right hand turn knowledge lol
@SchoolBusSass
@SchoolBusSass 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Adrienne, What a great question. My best piece of advice is to really slow down your right hand turns and watch your lower right side mirror while turning. Your rear dual acts as your pivot point for any maneuver. In this instance, when the dully reaches the strongest portion in the curve, of a right hand corner, you will not hit that curb...I hope that written explanation makes sense. Just take your time, slow your right hand turn down and watch your mirrors...particularly your lower right mirror. I believe you’ll see what I’m referring to. You’ve got this! 😊

@@SchoolBusSass ok so I'm in bus school. I've mind melded with that right convex and I can get nice & close to the curb without hopping it but my trainers are always telling me that I'm turning too soon & tight & not watching my tail swing. I'd thought tight was good if you aren't hitting curb. I was hoping to find out more about avoiding the problem I have. I guess I realize that you should turn wider to reduce tail swing but it's rarely mentioned as a problem in videos.

Will I get points taken off if I am turning to make a right turn too slowly? I always brake, make the right turn, and press on the accelerator when I know I will not hit anything.
@SchoolBusSass
@SchoolBusSass 2 жыл бұрын
You can get points off for taking a turn to wide, and in most states, I believe it becomes an automatic failure, if you hit a curb. I am unaware of points being deducted for taking turns slowly. Check with your local test site for specifics. When I am training new students, I always have them take right hand turns slowly. When you take your turns slow, it allows you the opportunity to correct something that might be going wrong. You cannot correct, if you’re taking the turn fast. I believe slow will be fine, though I would try to avoid coming to a complete stop during the turn. Best wishes for a successful test outcome, Gary! 😃

Hello. Thank you for your video. I am studying for getting my CDL B permit. Do have a question for you about the turns. Have heard some folks say they use visual markers for helping with make left/right turns. For example the left turn I have heard using your drive window to line up to line in road/lane you want to turn to. Then the right turn I have heard some use their side door to help line up their right hand turns. Hope I make sense in what I am saying. So just wondering if you give trainees visual markers for helping them be more comfortable and confident in making safe turns. Thank you for your time 🙏 Jess 🙂
@SchoolBusSass

Hi Jessica, Thank you for your comment and question.. Yes, I do give, markers, to all of my trainees. Primarily for right hand turns. Keep your wheel straight until your hip reaches the apex of the curve of the intersecting roadway. I believe the right hand video gives a pretty good visual as to what I’m referring to. I hope this explanation helps. Let me know if I can help assist you through the CDL process.

@@SchoolBusSass Thank you for getting back to me on the question on turns. Glad to know that you give markers to help aid trainees. I just got hired by my local school system as a bus monitor and very excited about it. The school district is will to train me as a bus driver once I get my permit. So I guess I am getting the best of both positions to gain more experience. Appreciate your time and if I any questions I definitely will reach out again. Have a good evening! Jess 🙂

You didn’t cover which lane to use on a right turn with two turn lanes. There is much disagreement in my company about this
@SchoolBusSass
@SchoolBusSass 2 жыл бұрын
It’s best practice to use the outside turn lane, when you have a choice. Always turn into the nearest lane available to you, then make your lane change from there. Good question, thanks for asking!
@rockon8174
@rockon8174 Жыл бұрын
Your company telling you to use the inside lane? Main reason not to, is to protect your right side kick out. That's why you turn from the farthest right lane on a dual turn. Less blind spots and you protect your right side

Nicole, the 2020 Blue Bird Rear Engine Transit pre-trip premiers tomorrow morning at 8:30 am EDT. I did this video a bit differently than my first two pre-trip videos. This one gives greater details and explanation about the pre-trip and is split into two parts. The engine and outside portions of the bus, being the first part, with part two covering the inside of the bus. I hope you like this format. Let me know what you think. :)

I believe you are referring to hand over hand steering. There are two approved steering methods. Hand over hand, and push pull...sometimes known as shuffling. Either is acceptable for testing.
