You know for us steam enthusiasts, these are fantastic videos and for me personally being an old trainspotter back in the 50s/60s, to see such sights would have been a no no, to see a LMR `jub` teamed up with any southern region loco would never have happened, even to see a southern region `Battle of Britain` class in Carlisle would be something we could only dream about, I have nothing but praise for these devoted people who maintain and keep this splendid locos running, long may it last and many thanks to Tim for his video.

Thanks Terry. The preservation movement does involve large numbers of volunteers giving up their time to undertake tasks which are frequently dirty, arduous and anything but glamorous - we should indeed be grateful to them. Here at Carlisle we are privileged to see more steam trains than anywhere else in Britain - and I'll continue recording them for as long as I'm able.

It looked a lot calmer up there than where I am We had a lot of problems and trains badly delayed. A unusual pairing of locomotives. I am glad you were able to get out for them and get another good video made. It seemed odd putting the lamp on the vestibule. I had visions of it falling to the ground and breaking next time they uncouple the coach. Maybe they put it inside the coach after coupling
@schoolshorts2 жыл бұрын
On one of my earlier videos the lamp was similarly placed and then the vestibule door opened, a hand reached out and the lamp disappeared. It was surprisingly windy, especially on the more exposed northern sections of the station platforms - but certainly nothing like as wild as on the high fells or farther north in Scotland. Best wishes.

The Bulleid Pacifics are of course highly capable locomotives but, on this occasion, the Jubilee was - both visibly and audibly - doing the bulk of the work, as witnessed by the smokebox door. An odd pairing of locos - Leander gave the impression of doing most of the work at Carlisle whilst Tangmere spent a lot of time noisily blowing off excess steam. Each is a magnificent machine in its own right but, aesthetically, they don't sit well together. Purely a personal impression - I'm sure many will disagree with me.

They worked it so hard on the run up Shap that it burnt off the paint at the bottom of the smokebox door. Managing to do 06:35.42 from the M6 overbridge at Tebay to the Shap Summit sign at a min of 35mph I'm not surprised.

My son is 12 a likes to plays games like that too but he can set up a control a class 395 on TSW2 so that will do for me. I’d rather him learn that and be intrigued by steam engines and diesel locos,the history and the beauty of these magnificent pieces of British engineering,,over smashing his room because of a stupid game. So great video and hats of to lads of today keeping that spirit alive.

Although our stations are no longer awash with young boys as they were in the 1950s - when I was that age - there are still quite a number of younger people including many teenagers who are regulars. Sadly, the Covid pandemic has changed many peoples' habits and some diehard regulars have disappeared from the scene. I'm not an expert on historical liveries but she is obviously in British Railways colours - her tender is sporting the cycling lion - and, as far as I know, these locos were always black in B.R. days. The crimson livery I presume would have been from her pre-war LMS days. Crimson was the colour scheme of the old Midland Railway - not the LNWR. As I say, this is not an area where I can speak with any authority and I anticipate further correspondence from those who are more knowledgeable.

"That bloke" was me! You can't really hear it on the video but Tangmere was blowing off steam frantically - my cameras somehow never really capture the ear-shattering noise of steam escaping at 200 psi or more. In the heyday of BR Southern region drivers were forbidden to allow this to happen within Waterloo station - it didn't go down well with the wealthy passengers arriving or departing on the Ocean Liner specials! Footplate crews were required to manage their boilers accordingly.

Flying Scotsman attracts far greater crowds of irresponsible people than any other locomotive, with the result that detailed schedules of its forthcoming trips are not published until the last possible moment in an attempt to deter trespassers.
