@@xzyz8602 "underground" is generally used to describe a non-mainstream band, their last album had one music video that briefly ended up on mtv2, but playtime for all three albums (and their Christmas/Hanukkah special) was mostly reserved for "local highlights" shows on the few radio stations that actually played their music, in any case they were great, and played great shows, let's just enjoy the memories of what once was :)
@theboyoofoly3 жыл бұрын
@@xzyz8602 the first two definitely were not, the third had wider distribution but was still difficult to find in physical form, but at that point (2006ish) they were selling music on iTunes and Amazon, but they weren't exactly selling albums at bestbuy or target, even so availability isn't the same as popularity, they were never all that well known, they were mostly known as a small scale local indy band, I wish they had been more well known, but it doesn't matter anymore

I was at Criminal Records in Atlanta one random day in 2006, they were setting up to do a small gig to a small group of Little Five Point hippies buying records...I had never heard of them, yet they became one of my favorites that day. I stumbled upon their second CD one day like 10 years later in a second hand store in Florida, bought it of course, and it has completely rekindled the magic I found that random day back in 2006. They guys are so good. They used to do shows in my home town pretty often. They even did one of their final shows there. And still to this day I’m super salty that my parents would never let me go to see them live, even when all my friends were going. Like, I got invited to go see them and my parents wouldn’t let me go. Then when my friends told me “Man, you shoulda been there dude! It was so sick. [*insert my friend’s name here*] even got in the mosh pit and got a bloody nose. It was fucking wild!” They then dropped the bombshell that Schoolyard Heroes was breaking up, and I’ve been salty about it ever since. Lol

There's nothing wrong with having inspirations. If no one sounded like anyone else then there'd be no Primus, cause they sound like The Residents. And Tom Waits would sound totally different if he didn't take a page from Captain Beefheart. Now totally ripping off a band like Limp Bizkit did to Korn, that's a whole other story. And there's always gonna be at least one member of any band that's gonna be a dick. So don't worry about it.
