You're like a carpenter I knew from back in the day. His hands shook and he always looked too rough/violent with his pieces until he assembled them into the final work, which always turned out perfect. Same with you.

Despite the customer's mask we see that he has a big happy smile. Nice work! Very interesting anecdote also. As you thought, Irving Schott in 1928 invented the first leather motorcycle jacket with a zipper. The Rebel biker jacket. "The rough, tough garment designed for bikers crossed over into high fashion - and endured for decades." In another source, I read that "The Schott’s sold them through a Harley Davidson distributor over on Long Island. Each Perfecto Motorcycle Jacket sold for $5.50." Let's continue...

I _love_ my Schott jacket. Not cheap, but worth every penny... especially if you fall off a bike. The cut, fit, and dimensions (e.g., sleeve proportions) are perfect for riding. Those folks know how to make a jacket.

Great video, Steve! We really enjoyed watching your craftsmanship and how you helped your client so he can wear our jacket for many years to come. We offer many different jacket lengths in most of our styles to help everyone find the perfect fit. I'm sure that many of our vintage collector friends and those who have inherited their grandfather's jacket would love to see ways they can make them their own! Thanks for sharing with everyone what's going on behind the seams!

Hi Steve. I came across your channel a couple of weeks ago and been hooked ever since. I’m working my way through all your vids and never tire of them. I’m from New Zealand 🇳🇿 and worked in a shoe factory in Wellington for 17 years until imports made it unprofitable in 1996 and it closed down like most shoe and clothing factories here. We mainly made cheap school shoes of low quality in cement and veldt schoen construction. Actually weren’t that cheap at between 50 and 100 bucks NZD back then. There were many shoe repair shops around back in those days because shoes were expensive so it was cheaper to repair shoes that were decent quality. Welted shoes were a thing of the past in our factory back then but there still one or two factories in NZ that were making them.

As a hobby sewer, I agree about the old threads. I’m so jealous of the way you wield that Stanley knife. I use a seam ripper and it takes me forever. I know if I used a Stanley knife I would be cut to ribbons within a week. I didn’t know you could reuse the top stop in a zip. Gonna play next time I get one that is U/S to see what I can do. Excellent tip with the glue. I’m going to try using a fabric glue for the same reason.

I use a safety blade instead of a stitch ripper for things like that. You can buy them in a hardware store in the section where they sell box cutters. I find holding the blade in my fingers gives me more dexterity and control of the slices than when using a blade in a handle.

Same.

You have got to get over the seam ripper, Sarah. Use the Stanley knife or a single-edged razor. Difference is that one takes minutes to do the job and the seam ripper takes about 5 hours!

I have six A2 schott jacket and they r superb, all of them vintage. Used by Ramones, Marlon Brando in the famous movie etc. Anyway nothing at all to say, about the amazing job, but to alterate the jacket with pockets, is wrong, because the proportions will became different, I mean if we cut the jacket from the bottom, automatically the pockets should be in higher position, but that it' s impossible, so for that reason the customer had to think better before to ask to alterate his jacket. Maybe if the customer has the possibilty to spend more money, it might be better to make a tailored jacket directly in the schott factory. They do with a plus cost. Anyway great job, as always!!!

The jacket adopted by the police after the surplus of ww2 motor-bikes were received is the perfecto with a kidney belt added and the other protective features like double thick elbow's also a badge holder and on some had fur liners for winter . the old bikes would hurt you because of how rough they rode without suspension and the roads were terrible. Side-note most of the bikes were the harley 4 cylinder which is the most coveted bikes along the enthusiasts. Side cars were loved by some hated by others. The jacket and the bike are a true American icon. If you look online even forth or fifth generation Schott police motor-bike brigade jackets are thousands of dollars. Also I'm almost positive they are still made today and are the standard of quality. If I missed anything. Feel free to add information you know. Thank you. Side-note #2 fantastic job Steve I love your work. Even-tho you don't think so you are a shoe wizard.

Good job with the alteration. For me the sleeves often ten to be in the longer side. The j100 style jacket is a 50's design that is very practical. Honestly, if the individual person wants to adapt his garment for his personal use is great. However, the owner is a taller individual that can rock that jacket without alterations. I have several Schotts. They are good jacket. However, their products are marketed more towards the fashion industry and have gone away from military contracts and serious motorcycle collectors.

Steve, its a bit weird ... as when the bottom is shortened, the pockets will also be lowered. I bought a beautiful collard type leather jacket from All Saints. Now, the piece that I really like is a bit oversized. So I sized down. But sizing down made the jacket too tight. I was in-between sizes, which means the only option that was left for me is tailoring. Is it possible to decrease chest size of the jacket? A small is way too tight on me but the medium leaves some room that makes it noticeable it’s a bit big on me. Thank you for your time.
