Good review. At least it is not Hornady 188 grain ammo. LOL Never been crazy about the 3CR steel. But this knife works and you couldn't break it. That makes it OK in my book.

+Tactical Schrade's 3Cr13mov heat treating and construction for their machetes seem to be better than the large majority of the other companies who use 3Cr13MOV. Compare the 3Cr13Mov of this to Kershaw's 3Cr13Mov like on their Seige tomahawk, which do you think is better?

i have a question pertaining to steel. i know in your steel vs steel the surgical steel blade wasn't that great you said it probably wasnt good enough to be 420 steel. and if im not mistaken 440 steel isn't that great either. but at what point is it just crap and ok ??? and does it depend on how harsh you are with the blade?

i had a o1 cs gurkha kukri that broke 2 inches off the handle after less than a week. I was lucky amazon gave me a refund. I would not care for one of these at this price. When it comes to "chopping" wood with a large knife/machete i would take my camp 18 kershaw over anything. Even that and also these kukris are rather useless if you really are serious about having an efficient and well rounded kit. After trying both big knives and machetes and kukris i found that a small knife is always needed and axe does things neither can. If you really want to carry a big knife,say for defense against bears or whatever, cutting small trees, camp chores, a straight and longer blade is better. The camp 18 for me i think works the best, it also lends itself perfect to saber fighting techniques.

qpmkro Brb, sabre dueling a grizzly in SoCal. Seriously though, from a physics standpoint a well built & properly designed kukri is one of the most efficient blade styles for a good number of tasks. I don't really trust Cold Steel's manufacturing processes, but you can't deny that they have excellent designs. I'm not sure why they decided to use O1, SK5, and San-Mai III though... Spring tempered 5160 at ~58HRC is the obvious choice for such a blade, its been proven very reliable, has great track record, and isn't very expensive. AFAIK 5160 doesn't experience brittle-ductile transition, making it suitable for use in extreme temperatures.

Tac can you make a vid of how to sharpen kukri style blades?! Cause for the life of me I can't do it... Haha thanks!
@docleafman
@docleafman 8 жыл бұрын
+Chris Doane , Recurve blades can be tricky! A round sharpener helps, I use 500 and 1000 grit wet dry wrapped around a dowel. I break the blade in to thirds, tip to just behind the mid point, just behind mid to beginning of inside curve, and from there to the handle. I do mine freehand and don't think anything else but maybe a Work Sharp would do the job. Good luck.

It shows it's $75 CAD. Which is ridiculous for a hollow grind 3cr13 knife with a molded handle and a nylon sheath... Especially when you could get a 5160 spring steel saber grind kukri with a thicker spine and a leather scabbard for the SAME price... This is why I never get knives from Schrade, Gerber, or S&W.

Say Heah Brother Tac'tie, My People. I luv Khukuris and Kukuris so much that I had William Collins make me a Straight Kukuri. He said it's different enough to name it myself because it's different from his Master Woodsman. So I named it my Paul'ies Delight. The smaller one I named it my Paul'ies Pride. Yeah, I posted them on my Google Plus. I also made a couple of nice Combo's using my other Khukuris and Khukuris, like with my Himalayan Imports M-43 Khukuri, I teamed it with one of my 3V Bravo 1's, and my Cold Syeel Plus Kukuri in O1, with my Master Hunter in the San Mai 3. Both are awesome. Dilly Dilly.,,.p

+joel Velazquez Not a cold Steel rip off. The Kukri ((which this is based off of)) has been around for a really long time. Outside of the region where it comes from ((Napal)) it started to gain some fame in the early 1800's. to the point that one of the characters in the original Dracula wields one. ((1897)). So yeah.. not a cold steel rip off.
