Know this video is old, but watching this and reading comments that were actually informative helped me balance my 37x13.50x17 TOYO MTs (beadlocks wheels) Information such as grease the pin (I used bearing grease) and also used a level to verify the device was truly balanced before I placed the tire on. Once verify placed the tires on and within a couple minutes each tires was balanced according to the bubble and level. I used glue on weights and stacked them accordingly. I’ll ensure they are balance after I finish my Jeep lift. Thanks for the video and to those who actually put informative comments.

ShawnMrFixitlee I really think it's to save a few bucks in manufacturing costs. The balancing cone sits on a small pivot and finds its own level regardless of the angle of the vertical shaft. I moved the balancer all around the garage and it's stays level after the initial setup. Thats my theory anyway, I've been wrong before.
@patcallahan10506 жыл бұрын
I think you're right. If there were no adjustment, then you'd have to compensate for the miscalibration every time you used it. Even the most expensive equipment out there needs to be calibrated before use, even when new!
@sandymarte82614 жыл бұрын
The main reason is not leveled is, so the purchaser could notice it right away that’s it’s not level and proper level it. Also these are shipped all over the world and level tends to shift depending your location of the hemisphere. Good to share

@@SkylarHillShop - The adjustment is really needed! Even if one can't grasp the concept. At least believe in the cynically evident extra cost & labor! If the Chinese manufacturers, could skip making the holes, plus threaded holes, plus screws, than put it all together. OR just fix the bubble with a drop of super glue!!! Don't you think they would do it? ;-) BTW the adjustment has nothing to do with the ground level! It's the resting head that need adjustment. Yes, they could perfectly balance it. But your invoice would have a different value, higher I mean! It's all cost vs functionality. ;-)

If we swing the wheel on this balancer it settle in 2-3 seconds the chance is high that the pin receiver hole is too deep. Because the pin’s cone body is rubbing the receiver barrel at the nozzle. The design was intended to have the hole ceiling resting on cone pin tip. That was discovered by a KZbin channel. A good manufactured sample can let tire swing for ten seconds at 1-2 inch swing.
@hhn20023 жыл бұрын
good information, i will have to look into this. do you have the search terms for this video. thanks
@philoso3773 жыл бұрын
@@hhn2002 sorry I didn’t record the link. Here is a way to test for manufacturer error. (1) Use fine sand paper to remove paint or black oxide on cone. Use layout ink or sharpie to coat the cone surface. Sit the bubble level assembly on the cone and spin it one turn slowly. Inspect if any rubbing on the cone. (2) Correction, if we find rubbing. use drill bit 1.5 to 3x the bore diameter to slowly and progressively chamfer the muzzle until we see no rubbing on the entire cone. (3) Further upgrade? Once we fixed the rubbing problem, ask your machinist friend to lathe the cone tip, form convex to concave (90-120 degrees) to a depth of 1/4 of original nuzzle diameter. Suspend the bubble level assembly on the mock up cone with a steel bearing ball in between them, to watch the tire never stop swing. :)

Then centering the mounted wheel/rim tire on the balancer if weight exceeds 1/2 ounce on outside mark inside of rim with tape and adhere/ install 50% of weight on the Inside at same point of diameter.

You ever think that the adjustment is to account for not being on a perfectly flat surface or maybe for recalibrating the tool before shitting on HF for making affordable tools? Not all shop/garage floors are perfectly flat and level. In reality, none of them are actually perfectly flat and level. No tire balancer comes absolutely perfect and ready to go. Our $30,000 hunter balancer has to he recalibrated every so often or it doesn't balance tires right. I'd say for under $100, it's hard to beat considering it does work.

I've been a technician for several years and ive just about balanced every tire you could think of and im here to tell you that that machine is not 100% accurate. The machine i use at work has lasers that measure the tire not only statically but dynamically aswell and not to mention they the machine i use measures the vibration in the rim so that it can determine a proper weight due to road conditions. Thats a simple static balancing tool that gets its close enough i know cause i bought one and then when it was balanced i took it to my job to see if it was balanced or if it was just a scam and not to bash harbor freight it was pretty close but still it was .75 off which is not crazy but long story short you aren't paying techs to just balance your tires you're paying them to balance your tires on a trusted machine that cost upwards of $5,000-7,000 and is calibrated every 6 months to ensure quality again not bashing anyone but thats the sad truth theres no cheap way when it comes to balancing tires. Now on the other hand harbor freights tire removal device actually does work 100% and is user friendly.

Why they can't build it balanced from the factory: Because your garage floor isn't level. It's built on a slope, for drainage purposes. I doubt any two garage floors are on exactly the same slope. They would have to build this the way they have, so everyone can set it for their own floor.

good day sir, i know this video is 9 month old tho i was wondering if your balancer was working as mine is working, after i have the tire balanced i put the wheel back on the balancer again but now i put the wheel in a different place, what i mean is i turn the wheel so i have it on the balancer in a different place as the first time when i balanced the wheel, and every time i do this i have a different light spot, i did this like 20 time and have a different reading each time, so where is the right light spot on my wheels, lol, my car tires and rims fit on my trailer superficially, and my trailer got no brakes just baring and cones , and when i install my car wheel on the trailer and tightening up the lug nuts, give my wheel a little spin , leave it set for a few moments, the heavy spot of my wheel with all that other led removed, the heavy spot when right to the bottom, right where i wonted it to go, took my white chock marked the light spot added led so that my wheel stooped rotating , and this is how they balance the motor cycle tires and they are driving a lot faster then we are in our cars and they have no shaking or vibration nothing , couldn't balance a motor bike with this bubble balancer first turn you come to you shake so bad would end up in the woods , lol i am kinda happy and glad i have some way to balancer my wheels besides mr, bubble ferry bubble balancer , mine is the very same as you have sir, the only way that you can find out if your balancer is working the same as mine is , do the same test that i did , 1 would say i have about 50% with the bubble balancer, and a 150% balanced on my trailer , the bubble balancer is balancing the wheel of the right light spot of the wheel, this is why it is never going to be perfect balanced, so we need a 12 hundred droller trailer, and a 200. droller bubble balancer to save a few 100 bucks, but i love doing it the same even tho it's a pain in the big toe, i still save the money, lol but the funny thing when i bought the balancer they didn't ask me if i had bought the trailer first, and to make dubble sure my car wheel is going to fit on the trailer so that i can find the right light spot and that the bubble balancer is going to find like 25 light spots on 1 wheel, how we going to know what one to take to add our led waits, joke, i think it would have been a bit cheaper if i would have when with the computer balancer , not the bubble balancer and the trailer, lol

Only one way this balancer will work correctly because cone is not perfect shape. Do not level bubble without wheel on the cone because cone is wrong shape. Shape of the cone even will changed for different wheels hole size. 1. Remove springs and holding ring completely in garbage. 2. Inside the cone make center hole wider with about 10mm drill bit. But do not drill deeper than oringinal hole center located. Add drop of water to drill easier. 3. Gently with grinder or file make the cone support the shape of a bullet without touching the very tip. 4. Gently tighten 3 bubble screws and loose them 3 turns. 5. Install balancer as it should. 6. PInstall balancer as it should. 7. Put drop of oil on the tip. Install cone. Do not try level bubble with srews now. 8. Put any wheel on the cone. 7. Sit down slow rotate the wheel and center cone in the wheel hole every time before check the bubble. That is very important for results. 9. Put mark with black permanent marker to aluminum cone where is air bubble now. 10. Put mark with chalk same direction on the wheel. Remember exactly where is air bubble now. 11. Turn the wheel mark to opposite side 180° from cone mark. Marks should be opposite sides. Wheel on left cone on right. 12. Now only use 3 srews to close bubble to same location it was before.13. Repeat many times to reach perfectly same location of air bubble. 14. After you reach same bubble location turn wheel angle 90° and repeat steps. 15. Put wheights on the wheel. Reapeat steps to check bubble centered. Now it will work perfectly. I did my wheels balancing better than any tire shop. No vibration at all.

that is just to adjust to your floor if it is not level. :)
“Balanced from the factory”???? No, that is to balance it for your floor.

Not for the floor, this video does a much better job describing what the screws do.... kzbin.info/www/bejne/pXK5dKWapd2NpLc

Frank Mata- Like we say in my country "what does the ass, has to do with the pants?" LOL 😂 Why would a tire wear on the inside because of a static balancer... That's a lot of imagination! ;-)

The ballance adjusters are meant more for your floor, hardly anything in the world is perfectly level

These shit does not work. If you pick up the wheel and put it back on the balancer the reading would be different again.
@Yoglawm5 ай бұрын
Yeah it's a piece of crap. I got one, did the modifications using a steel ball. Learned that if you reposition the wheel it will give a different reading. Not only that, even if you managed to duplicate the position every time, this manual tire balancer does nothing to help you where you need to place the weights (outside? Inside?). Even with an understanding of weight distribution, you're left to your best judgment - and that's just too much tinkering. Best just to get a computerized balancer if you're serious about doing it right.

Does it do that even if it's leveled where the bubble is centered before using it? Does it do the same without a wheel on it?

Where the wheel sets is cone shaped. It centers itself.

why cant they balance it from the factory ... lmao why ..?? i will tell you why, because they would have to carve out that entire piece from one metal block and make it level to their foundation floor which is NOT going to be the same as your foundation floor .. this is WHY they have those 3 screws to fine tune the bubble to center because they know the base and rod will NOT be perfect vertical and they know your ground will not be perfect flat and level .... THATS WHY..
@SkylarHillShop5 жыл бұрын
The level of the floor has no effect on it. The top portion will "level" itself on the rod. Once I adjusted the screws I can move it all over floor and the "level" doesn't change. The screws just change the relationship between the bubble level and the top.
@ACommenterOnYouTube5 жыл бұрын
aXe at 1:17 you asked why don't they balance it from the factory ... Which is why I replied and explained to you why... Now you say the level of the floor has no affect on it ..??
@SkylarHillShop5 жыл бұрын
@@ACommenterOnKZbin In the video I was truly trying to figure it out. I have since thought about it some more. It really doesn't matter what angle the base is at. The top part rides on a pivot and is free to move however it wants. So in theory as long as your base is on a relatively flat spot it should have no effect on it as long as there is still enough movement in the pivot to compensate. It would make sense that the top portion would not be perfectly balanced. Its assembled from several different pieces and would take some serious quality control to make it perfectly balanced. So really the top part isn't truly level just because the bubble is in the circle. You a just creating a reference point to work from once you place the tire on it. A smarter person could probably work that much better.

I had one and I gave it away. Every time I balanced my tires they were good for a couple days then they would start wobbling again. Take them off re balanced them same thing. I did that three or four times that was enough. Tires aren't cheap.

not really. there is a reason weights are put on the inside and outside of your tire. or do they just do it for fun. ERRRRRRRRRRR think about it.

nop, nop, nop and nop. I'm a tire guy for 40 years, im 49 years old. the problem with those tools, it's how do you know, if the weight is gonna be outside or inside? now come to my shop to see if the tire is balanced, I'm gonna say nop, nop and nop!!!!!!!!!!!
@SkylarHillShop6 жыл бұрын
If I need to add 2 ounces or more, I put half the weight on each side of the tire. Obviously not as precise as an electronic dynamic balancer. However around here it costs $12-15 to have a single tire balanced. After just 4 tires it pays for itself. As long as I don't feel any vibrations driving down the highway that's balanced enough for me.
@Easternoregon16 жыл бұрын
What if its a clad tire that cant have weight on the outside? Tire shop cant seem to balance it.
@SkylarHillShop6 жыл бұрын
Have you tried balance beads?( I I think that's what they're called) it's a packet of beads you throw inside the tire before you mount it and centrifical force throws them outward and balances the tire as you drive.
@Easternoregon16 жыл бұрын
I have the same cooper tires you have in your video. Vibration over 65 after the tire shop put the tires on. May not be balance. They may have damaged a rim. Do they ride smooth for you?
@SkylarHillShop6 жыл бұрын
Easternoregon1 They rode very smooth. I recently traded the explorer on the purchase of an expedition. It has the same tires on it just larger 275/55R20. They are nice and smooth as well. Maybe the tire shop did a bad job or maybe a weight came off?
