I read in a biography of Schubert that he was in love with a simple young lady, not very pretty but gentle, a singer, but he could never marry her because he was not rich enough. She waited for him a long while until she could not wait any longer.. I found this story sad sure but very romantic too ...

There are the universal things and the immortal things in this world. It is masterpieces of Schubert
Days and days of beautiful music. I had no idea that Schubert wrote so many sonatas in his tragically short life. What I have heard so far tells me this is a musical tour that will be well worth the while embarking on. Thank you yet again Brilliant Classics. You never fail me in expanding my musical journey. At 81, that has been happening since I was 3 and started experimenting at playing piano. My hands and shoulders no longer allow me that pleasure, but my ears and brain still carry my curiosity on. There is a great deal to enjoy in today's classical type musical world and exciting young artists and composers to be amazed at. Then there are the immortals, like Schubert. This recording is one of your best piano ones to date, and the artists who have played here appear to be very insightful and talented. Thank you so much. By the way did the Jussen brothers play the Lebenssturme?

Franz Schubert was one of the greatest composers of all time. His life was not easy. Schubert enormous talent was not recognized during his short life (only 31 years) and, to survive, he could only count on the help of a few friends, who often spent the evenings with him, when he used to play his works at the piano, often with the presence of a singer (his famous lieder). He wasn't lucky in love either. He fell in love, reciprocated, with an opera singer, but her father opposed the marriage, since Franz was poor and without a stable job. He left us a legacy of inestimable value: his works, most of which were saved from oblivion thanks to Robert Schumann, who found the scores in his house in Vienna, thrown into a dumpster by his brothers. A detail: Schubert, unlike most composers, did not use the piano to compose; simply, he wrote on the score, as we would write a letter (before computers!). Thank you, Franz. God gave you gifts of inestimable value, which you transformed, for us mere mortals, into simulacra of Beauty.

just realized that composers have been locked into this system of 12 half tones and keyboards to have range and play chords, resulting in these approximations to the true intervals. Just had the idea that maybe most of dissonant chord theory might be actually just approximations to momentary transpositions to other keys. Bears exploring. Indeed, checked this on arabesque Debussy, the dissonance is when he overlaps two different keys implicitly
@Bring_the_book Жыл бұрын
Definitely not. That idea is why 20th and 21st century music went wrong.
@Rene-uz3eb Жыл бұрын
@@Bring_the_book I've done some more research since. Dissonant chords aren't dissonant they are two (rarely 3) keys played at the same time. Given that every interesting piece of music involves at least implicit temporary modulations to different keys, I wonder how it would sound if instead of on a 12 tone it would be played in just intonations. I suspect better when moving scales and chords, however I'm not sure about when two keys are played at the same time. Probably still better: the obvious way to derive a scale would be taking the first, third and fifth of each pure chord and choose the remaining scale tones from either scale depending on which one the melody emphasizes. Although usually one key is dominant, otherwise it does sound too dissonant, so either the third or fifth is omitted from the other. Maybe those newly derived scales sound interesting. It could also be they sound off and that you'd have to choose one just scale (of two) only, for the melody.

@@Rene-uz3eb Interesting. I wasn't familiar with that. Is that where the emphasis on the pentatonic scale in many late Romantic composers arise?

The issue with that train of thought... is that before the 20th century, composers were not conceptualizing music in a chord by chord fashion. Rather, chords were a result of counterpoint. Another issue lays withing the fact that it wasn't until pretty late into the 19th century that equal temperament became the standard for keyboards. Modern musical analysis, while interesting... is wholly inadequate for understanding pre-20th century music.
