My Music Teacher, Mrs Peggy Williams, of Prestatyn in North Wales, and I used to play this. I as a rather poor Secondo, as I recall. We first met at my preparatory school (ugh) where she came in weekly to teach music. After I had negotiated an exit from this school with my parents, I continued to see her regularly and although I did not have the temperament for taking practical examinations, I stayed with her for some time just playing duets and enjoying music. I did however, sit Grade Five theory and passed with 100% (Wow). I went away to work in my twenties and lost touch. Coming home later, I saw that her house seemed to be in some sort of renewal, and upon asking the next door neighbour for information, learned that she had died very recently. I was reduced to tears there and then. So just a tribute to a lovely lady and an accomplished pianist that brought joy and a love of music into my life. Thank you so much, Mrs Williams....

anyone feeling the 'need' to criticizes Martha Argerich's performance ... needs, in my opinion ... to rethink their concept of what beauty is ...
@virtuosiproducoes25919 жыл бұрын
The problem is not Argerich, but Delgado! She is very generous and he doesn't practice. In fact, he probably never played this fantasia before.

Virtuosi BH Now ~ after reading your comment, and after listening once again to this performance: it IS what it IS ... and ... what it WAS at the time. Sometimes a slight imperfectness can also be appealing ... especially when two excellent musicians meet. Rest assured, that Martha Argerich would not have "teamed up" with Delgado, if she did not see him "fit" ... agree? Regards from Canada!

Jeong Hoon Ma ~This is the manifestation of the tension & beauty inspired by unrequited love. Schubert was the music teacher of Katherine Esterhazy. They had a palpable chemistry, but because of her position & royal status they would have been heavily supervised. He composed this Fantasy so they could sit next to one another for the duration of the lesson. Several times their fingers touch and cross.

@mattshum13508 жыл бұрын
This doesn't hang together very well. They have different playing styles and apparently different conceptions of the piece. Argerich is antsy, ferocious, impatient, direct while Delgado is silvery, patrician. Seems underrehearsed. Argerich was probably sightreading! :-)
@lsbrother7 жыл бұрын
"Sightreading" ? that would imply she's never played this before - do you really believe that?!
@gabrielxing9 жыл бұрын
The melody is not so well played, especially the first three do-do-do sound like sticked somewhere and disconnected somewhere else. I don't blame it on Martha Argerich because the melody is not played by her. But they not matching each other's tempo, they disconnected most of the time. Maria Joao Pires plays them correctly and is more convincing.
@sorim19678 жыл бұрын
+Jie Xing It is exceedingly well played. it is a live performance not meant to be perfect in technical means. It is artistically exceptional and thas the only thing that matters. You have the ear to pick up technical points but not to appreciate the musicianship involved... Personally when thos music is played I am happy to hear it even if it is played by music school students which is the standard that Schubert would have thought was sufficient to enjoy this.
@vallou187 жыл бұрын
I agree with Jie Xing. It is disconnected. There are better versions out there. And I'm a big fan of Martha. Not one of her best. It happens!
