I have loved A Midsummer Night's Dream from the time I was a child, pretending to dance. The piece is so rich, and the students of the Schulich School of Music handle their instruments and voices as professionals. Someday I would love to see and hear the School of Music in Canada. Meanwhile, I'm on my stationary bike with A Midsummer Night's Dream every day.

There's something special about youthful orchestras, with inclusive young choirs and brilliant vocal soloists, and when they are as good as this one, great hope for the future of future orchestral music as these young players go to many other orchestras after University. A delightful rendition of this wonderful music.

Mendelssohn was a fabulous talent who passed on far to soon.

The first opera I ever saw at the age of nine in the theatre was Mozart's "Magic Flute". It remains as magical and majestic for me as does this piece of musical fantasy. The first long playing record I ever purchased was the director Otto Klemperer's MIddlesex England rendition of this piece with Heather Harper and Janet Baker. I still have it. It was my introduction to the classics. Aurally, I still measure all representations of it by that first one. It was so extraordinary. It requires great focus and concentration but a sense of whimsey to truly make it come alive in a kind of delicacy and fairy-like tone.

1:39 is when I usually stop listening, but you did the right transition (most conductors have the orchestra blast it, which doesn't work). More phrase dynamics in the beginning strings sequence would be nice (maybe even magical) (definitely more intense)...

Such a beautiful song. I read somewhere that Hitler banned the playing of Mendelssohn because he was a Jew. And wow what a magnificent performance!
