Your tutorials are absolutely amazing, Ryan. Helped me overcome a severe Blender Crisis... One little tipp in case someone makes the same blunder that I did: During the modelling I suddently got weired shading issues with smooth shading on. Turns out the reason is that all of a sudden the bevel modifier stopped working (worked properly when I applied it first and worked properly on other objects). And the reason for that is, that whilst extruding I obviously hit E one time too much creating double vertices, in that case the bevel modifier turns off for the whole objekt (kudos to Michael Bridges here on YT for figuring that out). Cleanup - merge by distance solved this...
@RyanKingArt2 жыл бұрын
Ahh yes, if you have doubled vertices, that can cause issues with the bevel modifier. Thanks for watching!

I have worked through this tutorial completely - and it is really great. Ryan explains every step exactly and you train yourself to use the shortcuts right from the start. Training is repetition and Ryan patiently repeats all steps from the first to the last minute. So you are able to reproduce everything exactly and get a perfect result. Thanks to KZbin you can watch every step until you understand it. As a graphic designer, I have occasionally created illustrations with Cinema4D in the past years. But the software is now unaffordable for freelancers. Making the switch to Blender was very easy with this video series. The tutorial replaces a dozen reference books. And although you have to invest quite a few hours, it is a lot of fun to breathe life into the robot step by step. Thanks Ryan for this excellent work.

Normals - you probably know under Overlays dropdown (beside Shading icons.. x-ray etc), you can turn on Face Orientation (checkbox) and the model turns blue / red showing if any inside out normals - which might be handy particular for newer users who won't have learned to spot normals issues while in regular viewport shading. You can also use Alt N (in Edit mode) for a Normals context menu to flip those selected normals, or recalculate inside / outside.

@@RyanKingArt I have a question if you don't mind... Let's say I import a character into blender, may that be from Daz3d or Character Creator by reallusion... These models come in with a ton of materials, head.. Legs.. Face.. Arm.. And so on. My question is... Is it possible to bake all these materials into one texture map... So I end up getting a diffuse, normal, roughness for the entire character in just a few textures. The reason is so that I can then maybe export my model to houdini for example and just hook up these few maps. Sorry for the long question.

Hmm, it might be that you just started modeling the robot from the left and right, instead of the front and back. So just rotate your object by 90 degrees in the Z axis, and then apply the rotation.
