Science centre closure “unnecessary” says firm that designed it, offering free repairs

With less than 5 per cent of the Science Centre roof in need of repairs, the firm that designed the building says a full closure is unnecessary. As Tina Yazdani reports, they offered to pay for repairs.

When planning school trips, teachers have to think about either public transit or bussing. If the kids have a field trip at the Science Centre, they need to be back at school for pick up by the regular school bus schedules. Much easier with current mid-town location. Imagine the traffic on Lakeshore at 2:30 pm! Did Doug Ford ask the teachers, the boards, the bus companies?

The Ontario Place “spa” will, of course, fail as a business, and then be transformed into a casino. The much smaller relocated “Science Centre”will become an attraction for families while parents gamble at the tables and slots.

i say we protest the closing in the way we protest other things important to us, this affects a lot of ppl here especially kids, certain people in charge of these decisions are being willfully obtuse to the push back there has been since the ridiculous pitch it move it to Ontario place. this is a bipartisan issue the science center is there to inspire all of us.

@Blutteufel you have said nothing to prove me wrong, yet, again, there is a long history of Ford's shady backroom deals, the fact that engineering report actually said that the entire building did not need to be closed and could have remained open while repairs were made, the fact that Ford REALLY wants to have a good excuse for his friends to build their Mega spa at Ontario Place and make scads more money for themselves...public reports that anyone can look up that say only a very small percentage of the roof is 'at risk'...this is just another Ford gift, and you're falling for it...
