Heads: a case study in the forensics and archaeology of crania
Heads are marvelous. Ancient heads (crania) are time capsules from the past and help Anthropologists learn everything from how humans evolved to where on the planet someone grew up. Heads contain ancient data on disease, health, age, injury, sex, diet, profession, origin, and social status. Beyond forensics, special case histories can provide startling insights into past lives. This talk will present my own research - from a brief overview of cranial forensics to a case study from the Ancient Southwest -- and its implications for understanding Ancestral Pueblo social organization from Chaco Canyon and Aztec Ruins. Note: images of non-indigenous human remains will be shown from modern published teaching collections.
New Finding in the field by Anthro (last month) & the FIRST public presentation of the data.
