Absolutely THE best explanation of this I’ve ever come across in more than 28 years of being in this industry. You are a master teacher!

Without saying it, looking at the "equal loudness curves" I saw and understood 🤯🤯🤯 the necessity to apply the "BBC dip" type of EQ around the MID range frequencies. All, default EQ's have some form of "BBC dip" on them. And without this "BBC dip" the sound is a bit harsh and irritating at any volume level. I've always thought that amplifiers and speakers are a bit difficult and challenged around the mid range frequencies😅😂. only to find the problem lies within my bloody ears.😢😢😢 Prof. Thank you for the free clear, precise explanations with context

Fascinating information, thank you. I was wondering what the bump around 3kHz was, you explain it's the explosive consonant sounds.

I love the way you explained everything. I already knew this material, but this helped my recall and to solidify the learning.

This is for recording/studio ? If one try to set up a home stereo this would be all wrong? I mean if this is allready counted for on the recording it will sound ”wrong” ? I know that flat respons is not that fun but a fletcher munson in a livingroom must be wrong? Maybe a Harman curve is allright though?

This explains the response of the human hearing system. The point is not to try to EQ your room to one of these curves. That wouldn't sound very good. The reason is because the people who mixed the music have essentially the same response you do so it's already "baked into" the recording. But on a practical note, it does help with two things. First, it explains why we need so much power on the bass end, and second, it explains why the spectral balance may be off if you listen to the music at an SPL other than the one at which it was mixed (hence the "loudness" control found on some stereo gear).
