They must have messed with the water supply in the 80s to produce such weirdos… ::settle down ruiners, it’s sarcasm:: P.S. My hubs once said he was going to make a competing gardening channel called Goliath the Bad and give out terrible gardening advice.

The best tasting loofah is the ROUGH RIGGED TYPE. In the Philippines we call them Patola in English we call them the sponge gourd or the silk squash. The SMOOTH loofah is the BEST for growing into sponges. They covering comes off cleanly. The Rough Rigged type are very difficult to remove the covering.
@davidthegood26 күн бұрын
Very true! We have grown both. I grew the ridge gourd on accident the first time. The skins were almost impossible to remove, but they were tasty young.
@Darkfyre75526 күн бұрын
This explains so much, thanks so much for that info! I'd also like to add that here in subtropical dry Australia where it's drier and the soil is terrible, the small smoother ones grow MUCH more easily. I still haven't been able to get the other type to grow for me well
@Darkfyre75526 күн бұрын
Thanks so much for this info! I've been wondering because nobody ever talks about the different types there are. I'd also like to add that here in dry subtropical Australia, I've had much more success with growing the smooth version in our dry compacted clay. The ridged ones seem to hate it here.
@katievanderhoeven132326 күн бұрын
It's easy to take off the skin if you soak it! (Just empty seeds out first if you want to save).
@PhilippinesFarmLife26 күн бұрын
@@katievanderhoeven1323 This works perfectly for the smooth skin variety and they come off like a glove. The rough Rigged type is a different experience. Soaked or not.

There is this wandering variety that is a hulking green giant known as 'Rigno'. When fully dried it's Green, thicker than any other variety I've seen. It grows so fast that it's basically not edible by the time you notice it. The leaves are purple-ish. It tends to grow alone, by itself in the wilderness, and should be approached carefully, but if you get the chance to find this loofah, 'Rigno'... Get a hold of that big guy!

It didn't occur to me to wash the dinosaurs, but that would probably explain the smell as they trample around the house. Perhaps with this growth, which I'll have to wait for next year to experience, we'll finally live in a house which smells less of feet, and more of wildly gesticulating appendages.

Absolutely Schmashing to hear your invited professor talk about the Loofah Egiptica,😂such a versatile veggie and scrub pad, dunno why people prefer those plastic scouring pads made by Scotch Brite, those will take forever to decompose , meanwhile the trusty Loofah, once it is thoroughly used, will biodegrade back into Mother Earth, that her children may come up in future seasons, taking in nourishment from the earth and the sun.😊
