In this interview at SAND19 Italy by Zaya Benazzo, Mark Dyczkowski dives deep into the history of Tantra and the practices of Tantric Kashmir Shaivism. He describes tantric rituals, explains the interplay of duality and nonduality, and touches on the relationship of Tantra to sexuality.
Mark Dyczkowski is one of the world’s foremost scholars on Tantra and Kashmiri Trika Shaivism. He has lived and worked in India for close to forty years. Both a scholar and a practitioner, he was initiated by the great Indian teacher Swami Laksmanjoo in the year 1976. He has an undergraduate degree from Banaras Hindu University and a Ph.D. from Oxford University, where he researched Kashmir Shaivism under the guidance of Professor Alexis Sanderson. Mark has published extensively, including the 12-volume Manthanabhairava Tantra and is considered to be one of the world’s leading authorities on Tantric Shaivism. He is affiliated with several major academic institutions in India and has lectured in Universities in Europe, the States and India. Mark lives in Varanasi on the ghats of the Ganges where he teaches students on Kashmiri Shaivism and practices music. www.anuttaratrikakula.org

This is very engaging and knowledgeable about the history of Tantra and where we are today with it. It's like the library(ies) of Alexandria being burnt by the Muslims and most of the knowledge of the old world being lost; Tantra/Trika was also decimated by Muslim conquest in what seemed to be it's heyday. Humanity!...but we are grateful for what has survived 🙏

And what saved the most important aspects of Hinduism was that sufism took a hold in India ...Sufism is very much like vedanta/tantricism and protected India from become a fully Muslim country Even now sufism is the most beautiful part of Islam .. it is mystical and connects you to the divine like Yoga does. The world will eventually become one.

@@SrikanthIyerTheMariner @Srikanth Iyer Many Hindus have been misled, mostly by their own soft-headed scholars, to cherish the fond belief that the Sufis were spiritual seekers, and that unlike the Mullahs, they loved Hindu religious lore and liked their Hindu neighbours. The Chishtiyya Sufis in particular have been chosen for such fulsome praise.

The ultimate answer of how a non-dual "consciousness" ends up embodied in this, at times beautiful but flawed, temporal illusion fashioned out of matter-energy, is the difficult to accept but undeniable fact that "consciousness" (or rather the Spiritual Seed) has been imprisoned in this Maya hologram by the cosmic creator and associated deities (who shall not be confused with the Source of All, the Unutterable and Unknowable Principle, The ROOT of all beings and gods). The discernible purpose (there maybe other hidden purposes) of material creation (and imprisonment of the non-dual principle) appears to be the extraction and transformation of non-dual spiritual essence (from the imprisoned spiritual Seed) into "Nectar" to nurture, sustain and preserve the creators. As the Hindu Scriptures teach: the Cosmos is a Sacrifice to the creators.
@konstantingrudnev8374
@konstantingrudnev8374 4 жыл бұрын
Well, it's pretty good explained in Dzogchen. Using metaphor language I would put like this. Non-dual "consciousness" is an ocean (inseparability of energy & cognition) and individual "consciousness" of any sentient being is a wave in this ocean, this wave being cognitive thinks it's separated from the ocean (ego), and this ignorance leads to other two main states, desire and anger. But not all waves are born ignorant, some waves are born with knowledge, that they are unique expression of the Ocean (energy & cognition), these waves are enlightened from the start, cause they recognized that. And this is the line separating ignorant waves and enlightened ones, in Dzogchen it's called connate ignorance.

The Mother not only governs all from above but she descends into this lesser triple universe. Impersonally, all things here, even the movements of the Ignorance, are herself in veiled power and her creations in diminished substance, her Nature-body and Nature-force, and they exist because, moved by the mysterious fiat of the Supreme to work out something that was there in the possibilities of the Infinite, she has consented to the great sacrifice and has put on like a mask the soul and forms of the Ignorance. But personally too she has stooped to descend here into the Darkness that she may lead it to the Light, into the Falsehood and Error that she may convert it to Truth, into this Death that she may turn it to godlike Life, into this world-pain and its obstinate sorrow and suffering that she may end it in the transforming ecstasy of her sublime Ananda. In her deep and great love for her children she has consented to put on herself the cloak of this obscurity, condescended to bear the attacks and torturing influences of the powers of the Darkness and the Falsehood, borne to pass through the portals of the birth that is a death, taken upon herself the pangs and sorrows and sufferings of the creation, since it seemed that thus alone could it be lifted to the Light and Joy and Truth and eternal Life. This is the great sacrifice called sometimes the sacrifice of the Purusha, but much more deeply the holocaust of the Prakriti, the sacrifice of the Divine Mother. (Sri Aurobindo)

The self that shines in the heart of every living being -- smaller than the smallest -- greater than the greatest. So, the smallest of the smallest ... God in his infinite being humbles himself to become human in order for this experience to appear within the mirror of his infinite being. The experience that there are perceivers and the worlds, the universes that they perceive. So in order for there to be manifestation he must limit himself.

Amid the many systems of the One Made by an interpreting creative joy Alone it points us to our journey back Out of our long self-loss in Nature’s deeps; Planted on earth it holds in it all realms: It is a brief compendium of the Vast. This was the single stair to being’s goal. A summary of the stages of the spirit, Its copy of the cosmic hierarchies Refashioned in our secret air of self A subtle pattern of the universe. It is within, below, without, above. Acting upon this visible Nature’s scheme It wakens our earth-matter’s heavy doze To think and feel and to react to joy; It models in us our diviner parts, Lifts mortal mind into a greater air, Makes yearn this life of flesh to intangible aims, Links the body’s death with immortality’s call: Out of the swoon of the Inconscience It labours towards a superconscient Light. If earth were all and this were not in her, Thought could not be nor life-delight’s response: Only material forms could then be her guests Driven by an inanimate world-force. Earth by this golden superfluity Bore thinking man and more than man shall bear; This higher scheme of being is our cause And holds the key to our ascending fate; It calls out of our dense mortality The conscious spirit nursed in Matter’s house. The living symbol of these conscious planes, Its influences and godheads of the unseen, Its unthought logic of Reality’s acts Arisen from the unspoken truth in things, Have fixed our inner life’s slow-scaled degrees. Its steps are paces of the soul’s return From the deep adventure of material birth, A ladder of delivering ascent And rungs that Nature climbs to deity. Once in the vigil of a deathless gaze These grades had marked her giant downward plunge, The wide and prone leap of a godhead’s fall. Our life is a holocaust of the Supreme. The great World-Mother by her sacrifice Has made her soul the body of our state; Accepting sorrow and unconsciousness Divinity’s lapse from its own splendours wove The many-patterned ground of all we are. An idol of self is our mortality. Our earth is a fragment and a residue; Her power is packed with the stuff of greater worlds And steeped in their colour-lustres dimmed by her drowse; An atavism of higher births is hers, Her sleep is stirred by their buried memories Recalling the lost spheres from which they fell. Unsatisfied forces in her bosom move; They are partners of her greater growing fate And her return to immortality; They consent to share her doom of birth and death; They kindle partial gleams of the All and drive Her blind laborious spirit to compose A meagre image of the mighty Whole. The calm and luminous Intimacy within Approves her work and guides the unseeing Power. His vast design accepts a puny start. An attempt, a drawing half-done is the world’s life; Its lines doubt their concealed significance, Its curves join not their high intended close. Yet some first image of greatness trembles there, And when the ambiguous crowded parts have met The many-toned unity to which they moved, The Artist’s joy shall laugh at reason’s rules; The divine intention suddenly shall be seen, The end vindicate intuition’s sure technique. A graph shall be of many meeting worlds, A cube and union-crystal of the gods; A Mind shall think behind Nature’s mindless mask, A conscious Vast fill the old dumb brute Space. This faint and fluid sketch of soul called man Shall stand out on the background of long Time A glowing epitome of eternity, A little point reveal the infinitudes. A Mystery’s process is the universe. Sri Aurobindo, Savitri

The comment I made here is not from a specific religious perspective. Rather I celebrate Abhinav Gupta as him being a Kashmirian. And I believe that different people from different cultures and different backgrounds may make use of their human capabilities in different ways, then someone may use it better than the other one(Interpretation of a Quranic verse). And here I feel that Abhinav Gupta has tried put his resources in a good effort, irrespective of what he got as a result. But being a Muslim I believe in oneness of God and that ultimately everything will return to his direct dominian, eliminating the power of creatures over themselves and submitting to God fully. Abhinav Gupta tried to fetch the internal of this very matter of God's self and his creation. That's it.
