I grew up a town over from Hershey PA, where the chocolate plant is, as well as close to the Mars factory. They have bags of imperfect candy for workers to take home, and if you don't get sick of it fast it at the very least loses a lot of the novelty pretty fast.

@jennifercavenee7572
@jennifercavenee7572 4 жыл бұрын
Interesting concept. I imagine the rind of a standard watermelon is too tough and fibrous to really be any good, and a fruit that size is probably too big for the sugar to effectively penetrate and candy the whole thing. But I have seen candied melon flesh before, and some melon varieties do grow in small, single-serving sizes. I'd be willing to give it a shot with a miniature icebox watermelon or with melon slices if I worked there.

Some candy companies sell the mistakes for a discounted price. Russel Stovers (not sure if they still do) used to sell boxes of mixed candy that was considered defective because it had gaps in the chocolate where the filling leaked out at their factories. Jelly belly started selling their 'belly flops' jelly beans in the stores but they are not really much cheaper if at all. I miss the Sara Lee bakery that used to be about an hour from my house. They had some killer sales on their stuff in the outlet.

Some factories do sell the “defective” products... There was a “mom & pop” candy factory where my grandparents used to live, that we would go to whenever we visited them! It was *SO cool* - the entire production section of the factory was enclosed by glass barriers and the 2nd floor had enclosed glass observation walkways directly over them...so people could watch everything being made without getting underfoot and they didn’t have to worry about “tours/tour guides”, or risk contamination. It was basically the best and most brilliant factory setup EVER!! (I’ve not been to other candy factories- so that might be a pretty standard thing...but it definitely blew our little kid-minds!!)😆 But in the gift shop/store section of the factory, they had bulk bins of all the “imperfect” candies, that you would buy by the lb. for a significant amount less (if you just wanted it to eat and didn’t need/want the pretty packaged candy for a gift or something.) The entire place was freakin awesome. Definitely lots of happy childhood memories there! 😁❤️😋

Took my mom to France for my best friends wedding. Was smoking outside a shop my mom was in when we saw the owner give my mom a hug confused I went in and saw a huge bag of candy fruit. I ask my mom how much she spent cause the bag was full of whole candied fruit, told me she didn't know cause she didn't understand the conversion rate yet......she spend 80 bucks!!! I knew candy fruit was expensive but never knew how long and detailed the process was till now. Oh, and that 80 dollar candy splurge....yum, we shared it at the family and bridal party reception and while an expensive lesson, it was good.

When I was younger I always had a huge problem with people who did not use gloves when making food that includes hand involvement, or if I saw that food that is being prepared for me was tasted with the same spoon that would be used again to stir or shit like that. This included my mother too. If I caught her licking the spoon and dunking it back into the gravy, I would instantly say "nope. no way. i am not eating that" and I was fine with just being hungry or eating boiled eggs. But now, I matured, am 20 yo and stuff like this doesn't bother me anymore. I was watching this video and seeing the lady using her fingers to brake the fruit jelly apart, and it doesn't bother me at all. two years younger myself would go nuts about it and would never eat that fruit jelly, never XD

I had a jobs few years back just like the people in the video, packing fruit jellies into a confectionary tray on an assembly line in a small factory and this was like ptsd watching them getting behind on the packing in that shot lol it’s really hard

@@nicolashrv no, reality it is that you've eaten plenty of food prepared by lot of people without gloveswithout knowing abou it, and you're still annoyingly well and alive :) p.s. it's pretty dumb to call out one's origin without even knowing what it is. Nel mio "sporco" paese di origine, la gente ci spende i suoi giorni di vacanza per venire a mangiare. p.p.s. soaps exist. only fast food type of places use gloves, in every serious restourant kitchen they aren't used, i'm sorry if you never have gone to one. Yeah I work in food to wearing gloves is not as common as you think we don’t at my place the only times employees are required to wear gloves is on cash register or drive thru because money has tons of germs on it we’re always washing are hands In the back and it’s a lot easier to work without gloves as well.
