So the answer to the biodiversity crisis is to eat less meat, for companies to use less palm oil, and for societies to elect more green leaders.

It's Hugely more complicated than that, must be. Companies don't care the world is burning. They know what they are essentially doing with agriculture, mining, continued oil drilling & continued dependence on that. They only care about bottom line, even if there won't be a world for the next generations (or at least very unpredictable, unstable one, not much freshwater left). The most powerful people are 60+ years old, most likely, and will be gone by the time or right before it all hits the fan. There will be much worrying and assuring we can 180 out of this/ extreme saving of water/ divisions of haves and have nots. But it will overall be too late. Not in human nature to save and prepare, but to exploit and enjoy the good times unfortunately. Probably equally to blame systemic issues/ actual world leaders (those few at the top with biggest equity, money and influence) and human nature, we were too powerful for our own good, and chose anyways to try to tame/ surpass nature, pretend we are "above nature"... when actually we are nothing without life-giving nature, wild areas, and stable climate, will have to be (nothing left but dust and polluted scarce aquifers) eventually. Unsustainable & destructive ways by definition cannot last forever
