A glassblowing vid randomly showed up in my YT recommendations just now, featuring a number of glassblowers. I saw you making the 5-necked boiling flask and looked up your channel. I love your vids! Glassblowing, music, jive dancing - all of it :-) The glassblowing ones are my favorites though, I’m in awe of your skill :-)

Hey! What OD tubing you working with? Looking around for thin glass tubing to make some condensed coils with.

I can't get enough of these calming glass work videos. very satisfying to watch

I've always wondered how they get glass coils so uniform. That looks insanely tricky to do that over that rotating mandrel freeforming the position of the tubing and torch. Great vid!

Nice work. There’s always something enjoyable about watching coiling in action.

noticed you heated the tube first, is this to expand the tube so that is will contract when cooled and release the piece?
@Celebnariel5 жыл бұрын
Partly, yes. Good spot! But also putting hot glass onto cool metal can cause the glass to cool down too fast and cause it to crack.

Your shop looks familiar. Are you in Richmond Ca.? Nice work by the way.
@Celebnariel5 жыл бұрын
Thank you 👍 the workshop is in York, UK. It's just a standard industrial unit - basically a tin can with zero insulation haha. So I'd expect it would look similar to many units :)

Well, It looks like no blow tube was needed for this one.

Your videos are enjoyable, relaxing and informative. Thanks for your effort at sharing your skill. Would love to see more of your technique on the steps leading up to more complicated scientific apparatus, especially multistage gas washing bottles with frit diffusers or perhaps a spinning band distillation apparatus?
@Celebnariel7 жыл бұрын
James Baker thank you very much! I guess with more complicated things I concentrate too much to be getting film footage, but I would like to make more videos of complex glassware. Challenge accepted :)

does that shaft has some taper?
@Celebnariel6 жыл бұрын
No all our metal formers are just straight sided tubes. As long as they're kept clean and don't get bent, the glass slides off fairly easily. I imagine you might be able to get some tapered ones.

Hi Nice work, I am not a glassblower ( don't have the talent) but I have seen instead of a hole the mandrel has a bent rod which catches the tube and then to remove the coil there is no need to break the glass. You can try this by using the hole you have to place in a bent piece of all thread rod.
@Celebnariel6 жыл бұрын
Thank you that's a good idea! I'll try that next time :) will certainly make things easier.
