Fadil, thanks a lot for this video. I also graduated with a PBT special degree from Jpura which is pretty much similar to that of Colombo uni. So I can guarantee that, just like it was explained here, PBT is a wonderful and fascinating field. Never boring. It has a wide range of streams starting from traditional breeding of crops to editing their genes to overcome today’s challenges. E.g. Production of golden rice, wheat varieties resistant to drought (you can add a gene into wheat from one other drought tolerant plant species), producing fruits with a longer shelf life, producing ornamental flowers with new, different colour combinations etc. However, the lack of sophisticated facilities in Sri Lankan labs is a huge issue which discourages the continuation of biotechnology related research. I hope the government opens their eye and increases the budget and facilities available for R&D in the future. On the other hand, students in the (A/L) Biology stream should get to know about this area and see how much more doors are available for them, not just medicine, dental sciences etc (No offense). It was nice listening to someone speak about PBT at last! 🙂
