At 3:35, we see Howard Ashman who wrote all the song lyrics and was the executive producer of the movie. He died(from AIDS) 6 months before the movie was released. He was a big Disney fan and a very talented Broadway producer. I wonder if he thought that this movie would ACTUALLY end up ON Broadway. He put Broadway into "Beauty and the Beast" AND "The Little Mermaid". Howard would've been so proud of this Broadway musical and would've loved to have worked on it. R.I.P. Howard Ashman(1950-1991)

Well, some of the simple or high school productions do it this way: The Beast is double-cast, and Prince Adam/Beast Double is a different actor than the beast, and they usually are on a Peter Pan fly system.

Most of the footage was shot in rehearsals and in previews at the shows out of town tryouts in Houston. So, you see a lot of things that were eventually cut. Pay close attention to the Enchanted Objects and Beast costumes. They changed quite a bit.

I know when I saw it earlier this year on tour, the young prince in the beginning was played the same person who did the carpet in "Be Our Guest", and then the Beast and the Prince at the end were the same person.

@mochamegan123 It takes far less time to tear off the costume to change back into the prince than it does to put it on to become the Beast. Terrence says just that on the Good Morning America clip (also to be found on this channel.) There is a quick actor-swap at the end for the transformation effect to make it work, though, yes.

I don't know about in the Broadway version but in the London version the programme lists a different actor as the Prince in the beginning. So my impression was that they had a different actor as the prince and then the main actor, already made up, comes on with the transformation. At the end I noticed that the Beast's mouth wasn't moving while talking in the dying scene so presumed that the actor had already taken off the makeup.

You are right, the younger prince is played by someone else. But the prince changed back is played by the same actor as the Beast. He would hurry back stage and pull off all his makeup and his bodysuit, of course, he did it without hesitation because he said wearing that stuff was like wearing 3 winter coats and while running around the block! It would only take him about 7 minutes to make the change.

@mochamegan123 Oh! Sorry. It's always the end people wonder about. I think they switched them in the original production. The main actor plays the prince -- because you see his face clearly and you will at the end as well -- and the newly transformed 'Beast' is a substitute who cowers in the cloak in the shadows and ducks out. There's tons of time between that and the Beast's reappearance for the primary actor to change into the real makeup.

We’re doing this at my school and the guy who plays Lefou is being the young prince at the beginning and then a girl who is close to the height of the guy that plays beast is the beast while he is about to be killed by Gaston, so the real guy who plays beast comes back and does a switch in the darkness with the girl who is his double

There's just one thing that my ma HATES about Disney. She HATES that Disney ALWAYS makes their villain songs so CATCHY!!! For example not only Maison Des Lunes, but the two Gaston numbers, too. Oh, and there's Gaston's song 'Me'. I actually hate ALL THREE of those songs, because they're villain songs.

My mistake. I hate all FOUR of the villain songs. Well, I guess that's why Disney creates them. So everyone knows that their the kind of songs you LOVE to HATE!!!
